how low should you go?

I have an 85 std cab, long bed, 4 cyl. that I put 2" drop spindles and 3 " drop blocks on. It doesn't look that much different than when I started. Running 225 70R15's all around. I have a chance to get some Ground Force 3" coils for the front and wondered what it would do to the truck good or bad. Anybody done a 5-3?
Any preferences between steel vs alum rear drop blocks?

Re: how low should you go?

Dont get cast alum blocks!

If you go 5/3 your gonna have a bit of a rake.
Now trucks are diffrent then Blazers, but Im at 3/4 here with 235/55/16 tires.

And I was 3/3 here in my old Sonoma.

Re: how low should you go?

Just bag it and you can go as low as you want or as high as you want

Maybe 4/5 static i guess would be the lowest i'd go. I'm only static in the back and right now i have a 3" block. Probably not going past 5" static drop.

Re: how low should you go?

Looks like I'll go with the steel and paint them up good.
When you say "rake" do mean the front sits lower than the back? Does that do anything bad to the suspension?
Your old Sonoma looks like where I'm trying to get to but yours sits much lower than mine does at 2/3. I have about 4 inches under the front fender to the tire and about 5 in the back Looks like you had 16" wheels. Thanks for the Pics

Re: how low should you go?

No,the sonoma is wearing 15" z28 wheels,wraped in 215/65/15 tires.
Thats a 3/3 coil spring/steel block drop there on the sonoma.
If you go aluminum, thats fine, ither get the JTR solid blocks or use extruded aluminum blocks, just stay away from cast alum,Im just lucky those above didnt cause me to wreck!!

Re: how low should you go?

I have alum 3"drop blocks on the back now but the truck is not yet ready to roll. The G force kit has the 3" front coils and a heavy duty steel 3" rear block.
The sonoma at 3-3 just looks a lot lower than my s10 at 2-3. Coils vs spindles I guess

Re: how low should you go?

While the pic was loading I was thinking, "WTF is wrong with aluminum block? I put them on my mom's year ago with no problems". Then I seen the pic! Sh!t don't corrode like that around here.

Re: how low should you go?

I guess because they are cast, not extruded or billet, they corrode like that. I'm not sure what mine are so i might just go steel and not worry about it

Re: how low should you go?

He's from Illinois, it's the salt.

Aluminum and (sodium) chloride are not good friends.

Exactly. We don't salt the roads here in California. Just the BBQ!
