digital dash swap

ok guys, i have a 92 ex cab auto 4.3 I am wanting to swap to a digital dash. Does anyone have any info or a link that might help me to this? I did search, but I came up with nothing. Is it just a plug and play swap? I have no clue about this, but I am sure someone knows how to do this. THANKS!!!!

Re: digital dash swap

there is a link somewhere on here of a wiring diagram, i performed the swap and its actually really easy once u have the diagram, but there is a 34 pin connector that u need when u get the digital one out of the truck, also when u take it out get as much wire as possible to give you room to work. the analog one that u probably have is only a 24 pin connector. i connected it all together with butt connectors but they reccomend a plug to do it. i will try and find the diagram for you man, but its really easy

Re: digital dash swap

Here is the link that I used for my swap. http://mtx.mine.nu/. It may seem confusing at first but if you read over it a few times, it'll come to you. The hardest part I had was trying to mount the new plug in the center. I couldn't do it so I just left it hang and plugged it in before I bolted the cluster back in. No trouble so far. Hope this helps!! Took me maybe 2 hours or so to splice everything together. Just make sure you grab the digital cluster plug and as much wire as you can when you cut it off or it wont be long enough.

Re: digital dash swap

I finished the swap tonight, and it worked great. I got the cluster from pull a part for 29bux. It was a little harder than I thought it would be. Although, I did the connector like the link showed. If I ever have any problems, I can just swap the analog cluster back in. Does anyone have a link or know how to correct the milage. Right now it shows 255,xxx but I need it to show 231,xxx.

Re: digital dash swap

Mileage can't be changed, just like the analog cluster. What I done was took the mileage on my old cluster, wrote it down, then wrote down the mileage on the new cluster before I drove it. Whatever miles I put on it, I just add to the old cluster mileage. Of course if you were to ever sell the truck, the mileage is now exempt since you put a different cluster in, even though you can keep track of the actual mileage yourself. Glad everything worked for you. I was gonna try the small plug to switch back and forth, but I said hell with it lol. Good price on the junkyard cluster!

Re: digital dash swap

the digital ones cannot have the milage changed, but for my analog one, i just slid the pin out, and changed the milage to match what i had. worked like a charm re-insertion of the pin was a bit of a pain in the ass though...

Re: digital dash swap

Along a similar note, I have an 88 S10, and am building my own gauge cluster. What kind of gauges will work? I know it's cable driven rather than electric, but is there some sort of conversion I can do?

Re: digital dash swap

JTR sells an electric speedo conversion,it mounts on the rear axle, then you can use an electric speedo.
