cruise control

hey guys, i found a 2.8L auto blaze with C/C and i pulled the module, the C/C computer, and the DRAC module, all the wiring and vacuum hoses.

the only thing i couldnt get was the magic wand on the steering column... how do you remove that?

also, will this C/C setup work for a 4.3L or v8?

Re: cruise control

The CC should work. It does not know engine size. To get the magic wand all you do is pull and it cob]mes out of the wiper switch. then there is the wires that need to be fedd through. They are thin enough and should come out with no problem. I have done it before. Fishing them down into yours might be a little trouble though.

Re: cruise control

Re: cruise control

Thats all that you need to do to get it out of the wiper switch. Then pull the wires through.

Re: cruise control

crazy...

ill give it a try. i have 2 spare steering columns for my 83.

so what about the DRAC module? this one has totally different plugs than the one in my 92... this one has 1 plug for the CC and another for everything else... mine only has 1 wider plug... i could take it out for example...

Re: cruise control

well see then Try it on one of your spare columns first. The shaft can break on the levers

Oh and I have responded to some of your threads. I think the latest was your turbo charged washer pump and squirters.

Re: cruise control

Its been a while since I pulled it all out of my mom's. I remember the C/C module under the dash, a brake switch and the unit under the hood.

Re: cruise control

anyone have a pinout for Cruise Control?

if not, ill just probe and figure it out myself. im pretty confident with GM wiring and colors, so it shouldnt be too hard, just thought i'd ask before i spend a day or so working on wires

the reason i ask is since GM never implemented the Cruise Control indicator light, im going to make the one in my digital cluster work.

Did you just need a schematic type of diagram?

Re: cruise control

LOL
Ya,fishing it into the column is gonne be the hardest part.
Heres what the "magicwand" looks like after its removed:

I would get ya the pinout of the DRAC,but Mikes gonna hook ya up with the same schematic I would read off of so..........
If ya break the one removing it,that one pictured above is for sale

Re: cruise control

Does this work for you? It is from a Camaro manual but should be the same. I like this type better than whats in my S10 manual.

hahaa, thanks bro, i did get it out just fine. i practiced on a few at pick n pull first. we were up in calgary anyways, so i stopped by, and grabbed what i could without tools. didnt take much of a yank hahaa, i got it out. there were about 3 others, but all the wires were worn through... the one ive got was about half worn through... im guesisng this is a common problem on these things... shitty... what can be done to prevent this?

Re: cruise control

for the schematic, i just gotta find out which wire turns on and is negative... the CC light on the dash is negative on, so ive gotta find a wire that is only negative when the CC is on... either that, or im going to have to go crazy and wire up my own thing for the CC light. i could do it, its just i dont want to modify the cluster if i dont have to

Re: cruise control

Re: cruise control

Here is what i came up with. see the track about the middle, where its all scratched up? What i did was separate the Cruise Control light circuit from the rest.

This is what i had originally come up with... Soldered a couple wires onto the back of the board to run to a ground, and the grey wire in the Cruise Control circuit.

Yea, it worked, but it was a pain in the ass... i'd rather have it wired up into the main gauge harness...

So guess what i did :P i wired it into the main harness! see that wire there, i ran the (+) side of the light into the circuit for the Check Fluids light (that GM never implemented either). I had to isolate that circuit too (see the scratches just after the solder ball). What i actually did was cut into the board, just enough to cut through the copper track, then i cut about 1mm up the track, and peeled the copper up.

So this is how it works now. All wired into the main cluster harness! I also ran a ground from the CC Light pin to the main ground for the cluster. Just gotta run the yellow wire to the grey one on the CC harness, and im good to go!
