brake help

So i broke a break line in the beginning of the summer and never got around to it because i have another vechile for the summer.

I started to investigate how to fix it and it turned out the drum backing plate rusted out and the brake cylinder fell through and ripped the rubber boot.

I bought a new backing plate, new brake line, new hardware kit and rebuilt the drum and installed the new brake line.

Bled the brakes countless times and they would not pump up. So i just kept bleeding them through a full bottle of brake fluid and still no results. They just hit the floor everytime.

I went to the store bought a bench bleeding kit for the master cylinder and bled that on my bench. Put that in and bled all the brakes again but no luck. They hit the floor everytime. They wont pump up and no fluid is dripping on the floor anywhere.

Any suggestions.? Bad master cylinder?

Re: brake help

bad cylinder most likely.
if you left the lines without any fluid the insides of the lines and all the cylinders and pistons may have got rusty... scary stuff...

Re: brake help

yeah if you bleed them rear first and then front second and not getting air out them anymore and have bled the MC out then the MC has to be bad

try another one, they are cheap enough anyways

or take one thats good known condition from a donor truck or car

the way i bleed most MC is i mount them to the vehicle and take one line off it and have someone push the pedal down carefully while i keep my finger over the line hole, then let them push down a few times

messy but works

make sure you have the pedal up before taking finger off the hole each time and it will work great

i never use the tubes and junk they give you to bleed MC out

wash the compartment out after doing this so you dont rot the paint and electrical plugs in the truck

if you did all this and have no air out any bleeder anywhere and the brakes are not working right or pedal travel is bad then the mc is bad

or the rear shoes need kicked out ALOT

check for this also

if the shoe adjusters are frozen then the shoes will be inwards way too far and will take up all your pedal travel before you get any brakes at all

this is a real common inssue sene it a million times

good luck
