Re: 1st gen front end pics

Anyone here build their own grille?

I'm thinking of taking the shell of my 93 and cutting out the middle and leaving just the ends and the mounts, and stretch fleece over the entire thing and glass my own "shell"

Doing a different set of lights, maybe something like the 2nd gen? Shouldn't be hard to find the housings, and then do 2 oval cutouts for cooling....good idea or cheesy?

Re: 1st gen front end pics

anything custom is always cool, especially when you build it yourself
that way you know no one else has anythign like it and its your own blood and sweat in it
for the lights, not sure if 2nd gen lights would work out, they wrap around pretty far and youd have to cut into the fenders i think. i really like the look of round lights on a 1st gen, or you could go dual rectangle lights like iroc camaros, just tossing some ideas at you

Re: 1st gen front end pics

Ya, Oxsign Blazer was one that looked good with round lights, but I dont care for round on a square.
Maybe a dual rectangle next to each other like some of the 80's C10's.

Shave the bumper lights and move them up into the grill, or hell just do a full size front end swap, that always looks good!

I built mine, up on the top of the page, 1990, cut out the middle, and left the mounting and then put expanded steel in with spacers. 3rd try is charming

sounds like you have some good ideas, not cheesy, but you don't use permanent marker on a drawing board, if ya know what I mean. Keep postin and good luck

Re: 1st gen front end pics

I was thinking of doing that. I went to the junk yard and picked up a whole set of light off a cutlass, the ones with the small camaro size lights, 4 of them. SO i was thinking of cutting into the core support and mounting those lights behind the grill, as like a phantom look, or like the old chargers used in like the 69 year or so.

Im going to save that for my next s- project, and just do something mild on the blazer since im selling it.

Re: 1st gen front end pics

Ok got some pics of mine,

several years ago I took off all the paint on my stock grill so it was all chrome.

Altho you cant really tell in that pack because its head on, at any angle it ALOT of chrome, i thought it was too much so finally i decided to change it up a bit.

(the rest of these pics are cell phone pics but still look decent surpisingly yay G1)

Re: 1st gen front end pics

so when putting a 91-93 grille on a 82-89 truck, you need to completely swap out radiator core supports? Why? Are the headlights in different positions on the support

Re: 1st gen front end pics

Here is a pic of mine with a Carriage Works insert. I liked it a lot.
Liked it even more when I painted it black. Flowed o2 over the
condenser and rad like mad.

Now and have been for a while am running my phantom. It doesn't
flow o2 as well. I've posted this pic so many times even I'm getting
sick of seein' it, but oh well..

The hood is just what it looks like . The center part of the S-10 hood was cut out to fit the louvers in and then the rest of the original body line that ran down the middle of the S-10 hood was cut out and filled with sheet metal. At car shows nobody even gave the hood a second look with it up, so I did the suicide hood thing. Me and the way the hood opens now have a love/hate relationship.
Did'nt want to whore this thread up with pics, so here is a link to some more if anyone is interested.

Re: 1st gen front end pics

Does anyone have a pic of a front end with a phantom grille, a smooth front chrome bumper(still with parking lights) and the stock lower valance? I've been kicking the idea around but all i see is bumpers with the bolt heads in them.
