I dig the round headlight in the square buckets, it reminds me of my old '70 c10.

Re: 1st gen front end pics

Mine is a stock front end but i painted the chrome trim in the grill red and on the lower trim too. Not really custom, but small details that blend in. And the hood louvers are 68-72 Nova SS.

Re: 1st gen front end pics

why not use the sonoma bumper with the sonoma grille? that way the grill opening doesnt dip behind it? would look more 'tailored' or complete. just curious.

Sonoma bumpers are the same, with the exception of the trim molding being raised below the lights, but the actual bumper itself is the same.

I love the look of this truck! Stock looking but with a subtle hint of personal touches.... nothing too flashy. Looks great!

Re: 1st gen front end pics

I don't know why I'm even showing this. I posted the pic
in the past. I don't have the phantom on it right now.
I have the stock grill on it with a Carriage Works 13
bar insert painted black on it for the air flow..I've been
thinking of selling the phantom. It's a 19 bar. The
grill frame is painted white, but it's chrome under the
paint.

Sorry for such a large pic. I'll have to reduce it someday.

Re: 1st gen front end pics

Thanks guys about the comments.

For those wondering about the wheel/tire combo. It is 15x4 with 165R15 in the front (25" diameter). The rears are 15x8 with 255/60's. The louvers are a easy install since the base is removable and can be used as a templet to figure out where you want then on the hood.

^ For those who don't know, Red Baron is in Germany in a
small village. He told me when he drives his S-10 around
local folks just gawk ! One DOES NOT see a 1st Gen
Chevy S-10 cruising around Germany very often. He's
done a lot of work on it and getting parts for his ride
is hard and very expensive. I give him serious props
for sticking with it. You have to go through some very
tight vehicle reg's just to drive in Germany much less
drive an American made truck once in a while.

Nice job, RB..

I have a similar story. I live in a tiny village in England and everyone gawks at my first gen. You should see them look up in unison like a crowd of meerkat. My insurance company gives me hell because the steering wheel's on the left.

The main difference being my S10's a heap

Thank you very much !
Yes it isn`t easy to have such a truck here and let it roll..
But of course therefore it makes such a big fun!!
On my Homepage i have written it in German, but here is a (online)translation to English, i hope you can read it.
I describes the situation perfect:

In a time where cars are bought after consumption values which count opinions of 23-year-old university dropouts and car-newspaper editors with a choice of the mobile mat more than own opinion, the respect is more important in the local protection association than own wishes it resembles a gauntlet to get such a vehicle. Far away any economic reason, against all usual trends to paste cars with chrome foil and to lay out Alu-Riffelblech imitations to acquire his tuning parts from the local Discounter these vehicles stand like rock in the surf. Like a rock... Who loves today the sound of large-volume engines and the screws in the vehicles whose size can be compared to small armoured personnel carriers more than the animated discussions where one can get the Fixies diapers most favorable or the Tom-Felix only the first time on the chamber pot has gone, stands there fast only. In lack of understanding about the fact that one invests more money in these dinosaurs of the mobility in the month than some one slips the building society for the clearing away of his row small house one mostly harvests only inexpressive shaking of the head if one tried to torment himself in the park boxing genormten the German Institute for Standardization. The interiors whose dimensions can be absolutely compared to the magnitudes of the small cars which are preferred of pimply driving beginners, boot dimensions, which every VW T4 owners which itself keenly „Jesus aboard“ embroiderer on the tailgate knocks allow to turn pale and whole mass they let assume that the driver should better have one first-class II driving licence, do not provide with everybody for shine in the eyes. The fact that one not so is just, nevertheless, as the neighbour, the colleague or the companion from the association presses now and again almost to the edge of the social esteem and makes dull for any conversation. But unter'm line all this is worth. Who chooses his circle of friends after social norms which have originated at the family table, should also romp about in this. Not for love nor money we would like to renounce filthy hands and the always returning question „… what frissten of her?“ with the always returning answer „… home so much, as you with your full-packed cart annen Gardasee needs …“. All this is not only a hobby, all this is a setting to the life and some other things which cannot understand most, the dear fellow citizens …, however, sometimes … a grin sometimes darts to one over the lips. At the latest when on the parking bay of the local consumption temple an also "confused" gets lost to one and arises a nice conversation or a nice contact and one in his Boliden rises with the certainty … you are not level, nevertheless, alone."

With laws such as they are in England, I can only imagine
it must be VERY tough to even own a ride there. I don't
believe one can have a ride in London due to the parking
and other issues ? I'm not sure on that, but I thought
I read a ways back that it was so. I know you folks
there have street cameras all over the place, and sadly
the U.S. is getting the same way. I'll give anyone respect
who owns and drives an S-10 or any U.S truck around
and happens to live on another part of the world for
just being able to do so.

Parts are NOT cheap. I was going to send a sender or
sensor over to him from here in the U.S. By the time
shipping was added, it was close to a 100.00 bucks
if I remember right. No wonder everyone gets frustrated.

At least here we have junk yards to scour. It cracks me up
thinking how people might lose it when one drives his or
her's S-10 over in the UK. Same for RB and Germany. Now
if we could just get someone from Russia to show their
S-10/S-15 or 4X4, that would be nuts..

RB, that's quite a story, I gotta say..

Re: 1st gen front end pics

I saw a photo of a load of S-10's being crushed in Russia as a promotion for some company. You trade in your car for a new one. They ran over some nice Blazers with a tank.

For me, getting parts isn't too hard. There's a shop which imports anything very close to me and have a limited junkyard with an old S10 in it. They price parts as $=£. This means I pay more than the list price but it's posted and ensured I get it so saves a lot of bother. My 2.8 Blazer was imported back in '91 and rather than the cheap beater it might have been in the US, it's been loved and cherished as an interesting and unique curiosity

The speed cameras here only bother us if we speed, and as for London... I don't plan on going there anytime soon. You pay to drive there based on the engine size of the vehicle I think.

Re: 1st gen front end pics

The newest thing to take such cars away from the steets here are the labels you have to put in the windscreen, that shows that you have a clean car.
Without it you are not aloowed to drive in the big towns.
I should become one, but i have to attest, that i have a cat. That ccosts about 1000€!!!!!!!!!!!
So i dont drive in the town with the S10.

Which grill shell do you need to start with to use these inserts, the one with the mesh recessed back or the one with the grated style grill. I am trying to figure out which shell to order.

Re: 1st gen front end pics

The inserts look like they were put on the recessed mesh style grille. The headlight openings appear to be just a tad different between the two.
