1991 S10 4x4 project

cant find my old thread.any way i originally traded my 91 jeep cherokee 4x4 for this truck.

cherokee i traded^ for the s10 below.

it was slammed.had no brakes, no power steering,blinker/brake lights didnt work.door locks didnt work, handles were broken.passenger window was busted out.who ever slammed it removed the torsion bars/mounts,removed some leafs and put on drop blocks.

Re: 1991 S10 4x4 project

bought a passenger door glass for $50, installed it , and the truck sat for about a week till i took it to my friends to work on it.
put the truck on jack stands, dropped all the suspension.

dropped all the old suspension.took all the suspension off a 97 s10 blazer 4x4 and bolted it all on.leaf pack has 2 truck leafs, and the rest are blazer.
it got all new brakes, bearings ,seals and bushings, took the steering box from the 97 blazer and put it on too,all new power steering components, drive shaft, axel,cv shafts! below is when i first brought it home after "un slamming" it.

Re: 1991 S10 4x4 project

planned more fun work for the 91.. plan to have it done over 2 weeks time.

replace front diff actuator.
replace vacuum transfer case switch.
buy all new trans/front diff vacuum lines (i have connectors joining lines where i cut out rotted sections)
replace oil pressure sender.
replace coolant temp sender.
replace VSS (speed sensor)
engine flush/oil change (replace drain plug/gasket, oil cooler adapter o ring)

selling off my 1/8 nitro monster truck ,and nitro drift car to fund these "repairs"

since i got screwed outta my second parts blazer , i found a blazer on CL that will be parted. the guy said he'll give me a deal on parts if i take it off my self... im going to take hood, fenders, doors, door panels, dash board, steering colum, wiring harness under the hood.windshield and windshield post for a patch. the dash/wiring harness/steering colum ill save for another project.
body parts will go on later, i just want to get them so i have them and wont have to worry about getting them later.

will post pics as i go along.

Re: 1991 S10 4x4 project

Nice, good to see somebody saving it from a slow death.

I wanna see pics of the vega and nova. I've been looking for a vega not rusted out for some time and I have a 78 rally that I need to work on. I'm 2nd owner of it and it was factory carousel red (hugger orange).

those things are a pain in my a$$.. never can get all the oil outta lines, everytime i change the oil, the new oil turns black , i freaking hate it.
when i first changed the oil, i was like "wtf, where the hell is the filter?)

turns out its on the fender well,, freaking stupid. but i guess its good, cools the oil.

Re: 1991 S10 4x4 project

the bed from the 83 4x4 went on

trying on the swampers, didnt realy work too well

spray painted the cab & doors black (temporary)

hood ,fenders, cowl, wipers came off the 83 and went on this truck.

drove it like this for a long time.

Re: 1991 S10 4x4 project

engine crapped out, so i towed it to my friends house where it sat while i dealt with other things going on in my life.

picked up a set of 31x10.50x15 for $50

pulled the tube bumpers off the parts truck for the 83 (you can see the 83's cab off in the background)

mounted the 31x10.50x15's on the alcoa rims off my 83 4x4..

Re: 1991 S10 4x4 project

i think about 2 days ago i swapped in the "new" motor. timing is off a bit, but it runs. i have to fiberglass my bushwacker fender flares, clean up my smittybilt tube bumpers then put it all on. also had to order special lug nuts for the alcoa's, once them come in the mail i can get the truck registered. still got to do a cab swap and full interior make over.

Re: 1991 S10 4x4 project

crap..i cant edit my old posts... below are some interior before/after..

when i first got it

tore off the original junk panels.

got a 4x4 shifter/console installed.

then i took these parts from a truck in a junk yard..

"new" door panels,windshield pillar trim,light switch cover,rear view mirror,tcase shift console,glove box lid,stereo face plate,98 blazer radio.

got sick of the bucket seats and put this in for temporary.

Re: 1991 S10 4x4 project

you ever noticed how the smallest things make a big difference?

went months with out these!

leaked oil for months till i replaced all the o rings

for months i had only one wiper till i put on the front clip from the 83.

it put a smile on my face when i replaced this garbage with stock parts

i went from ugly tail gate, busted aftermarket tail lights, blazer bumper and spare tire in bed, ugly second gen rims to stock tail lights, truck bumper, liscense plate in the rite spot, spare tire under the bed, stock 91 rims.

that made a big difference

there was lots of little stupid crap done, but add it all up , it counts as progress.
