Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
the "cheapest" way would be a BL, TBar crank, and Shackles. that could be had for about 150$ for a first gen. |

Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
i actually thought about pre runner fenders too.
any lift is going to affect your cv angles. (except SAS) and i dont think you want to do that. |

Body lift and trimming is your friend. Body lift is around 200, and trimming is free! The prerunner fenders/bedsides are cool - but again; trimming is free!

Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
You can get a posi from an f-body for around $150, it's the getting it installed part that costs a bunch.
Could always go with a mini spool |

Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
Basically, it's a fully locked rear. It's easy to install and you don't even have to pull your carrier to do it. Baggey22 did a writeup on it a while back. IIRC they're fairly cheap too.
I might end up welding my diff gears solid in my truck because it looks like I'll be replacing my rear soon anyways |

Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
for a locker... just go and buy a mini-spool for $100. at the parts store... O'riellys can get them, thats the absolute cheapest you can buy, but it keeps the rear tires locked at all times. if you can go to a junkyard and find a factory g80 limited slip out of a camaro or another s10 or a full size depending on what size rear end you have for cheap then do that. as far as lift... the cheapest way is honestly to do a SAS. find some jeep axles (dana 30 and 35) though not the greatest axles to take a beating, they will start the way and will hold up just fine for normal off road stuff... if you want to stick with factory IFS setup, cheapest way is a body lift, crank the torsion bars, get re-indexed torsion keys off of ebay for $80 and get shackles for the back... that will give you roughly 4 -5" of lift, cut the fenders and throw some 33's on there.

Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
g80's bring the suck in real off road situations. get a real locker, a lock right (or similar), mini spool, or just weld the spiders like i did. lockers in the front are very hard on the power steering systems, a spool would be even worse. tire size can play a lot into the equation, but with my 38's and my hubs locked in, its basically like i have no power steering because of the detroit locker i have in the front.

Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
It wont hurt your truck but it will wear out your tires a little faster. But once youve experienced a locked rearend offroad, youll wonder how you ever got along without it. |

Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
i broke a shaft with 32's and a welded diff. i was also bouncing it in rocks at the time. with light to moderate wheeling, and 33's or less a spool will mainly just eat tires faster. it will have its effect on pavement driving, parking lots might become your bane. for a street truck, i would probably spend the extra money and get a lockright, though anything will be better than nothing.

Re: What is the cheapest Suspension lift out there???
This is in regards to a locker but im pretty sure a spool is about the same. But you can actually download the instructions at the lockright website, thats what I did before I put my locker in just to get an idea ahead of time. You just have to fill some info out like name and stuff and it will let you view and print the instructions off. I will add this, the instructions may seem a little confusing or like its going to be very hard to do but once you have the parts in your hand, seeing all the parts on the truck, and following the instructions its almost dummy proof.
Heres the website http://www.richmondgear.com/powertrax/lockright.html Last edited by JohnnyG : 07-10-2008 at 12:13 PM. |
