Too much camber because of lift?
A guy at a tire center said he noticed my front tires had a lot of camber and said it was because of the lift kit on it. I bought this truck recently and i didnt install the 4'' lift kit on it but idk if anybody would know if the lift kit could cause a camber problem and if so what should i do about it?...BTW its a 2x4

Re: Too much camber because of lift?
Get an alignment done asap. Otherwise say bye bye to your tires.
The lift wont harm your truck at all. |

Re: Too much camber because of lift?
uhyea... way to take pics of it with the wheels straight.
lift can cause camber issues. but if its a good kit you should still be able to align it to factory specs |

Re: Too much camber because of lift?
Since the wheels are at full lock, we can definitely tell how much camber it has...

You might want to check out your ball joints, they look kinda roached. If I am not mistaking, all you have to do is put more shims in to correct that. Is that a SA kit? They are famous on doing that to caster.

Re: Too much camber because of lift?
My bad, the guy at the tire center said that he noticed the camber when i was turning into the place and that the lift kit was killin my truck? Lol so i guess i thought turnin the wheels for the pic would help...here's the tires at full lock...

Re: Too much camber because of lift?
they were leanin pretty bad when i first got the truck but i switched the 2 front tires and they seem to be a lot better...i have another thread titled(headers...right or wrong?)...this is the same guy who said its pointless doin stuff to the 4.3 exhaust if im not gettin headers because the headers will choke it out anyway and even if i just did the y-pipe and cat and muffler he said i wont gain any power...so maybe this guy is just a chevy hater or just is talkin outta his ***?

Re: Too much camber because of lift?
camber while turning is not going to wear out your tires alone on the streets
you do 99% of your driving with the wheels straight ahead what you see while your wheels are turned is a mix of camber and caster. caster on an s-truck should be about 4 ish give or take a lil degrees i believe. which is not measurable by the naked eye. camber should be spec is 0 to -.25 ish give or take a .25 degree which is HARDLY noticeable by the naked eye unless you got 35's of 40's with a straight wall tractor trailer style tire. by looking at your specs i'd say you COULD be a little positive on camber on your right (passenger) side which in case you should get a proper alignment. camber is a direct relation to tire wear via excessive negative camber = inside shoulder wear excessive positive camber = outside shoulder wear the biggest factor of tire wear is toe in and out alot of rinky dink alignment shops wont even adjust caster or camber and abide by the crappy toe and go policy because it makes a quick buck make sure when you get an alignment to ask for a thrustline alignment since you have no rear adjustment. hope that helps, -Erik |
