The start of Project ZR2

Well i got this zr2 blazer about 3 weeks ago. It has been killing me to put things on it. So i started it all off with a light bar and some hellas.

Tell me what you guys think...

The blazer With the ORI Prerunner Bar

Put Some Hellas on

My next step is to tint the front two windows 35% and get some BF goodrich all terrains (31 inch)
then shackles to throw on in the back to lift it and level it.
Wheel spacers
Dual Exhaust kit

and then idk what else....

Anybody have any ideas on what could be done to make it bada$$?...no 6 inch lift though, it already gets bad enough gas milleage. lol
Let me know what you guys think.

Re: The start of Project ZR2

Get rid of the bug deflector, remove the roof rack, remove badges. Those are things I would do and are free.

get some nice billet grille inserts, rims, if any rust on the tow hooks or tire rack paint those.

Those are just some things that I would do, but didnt get to doing it with my BlaZeR2 before selling it.

Re: The start of Project ZR2

i like the bug deflector i got it for 20 bucks at a junk yard and it looks brand new. I took the spare tire rack and sanded/primed/and painted allready it looks brand new. Hooks...good idea.. they are rusted pretty bad. What does the sway bar bushings help out on?

does anyone else have any more suspension mods i could do? cheap ones? thanks

Re: The start of Project ZR2

not too much for these trucks in the way of suspension lifts. theres the superlift 2" but that's a waste of time and money. you can crank your t-bars a bit to get the front up some.

def gotta get some clear corner lenses.... just looks too damn cluttered with those orange eye-sores. like mentioned, de-badging it is a free and easy way of cleaning it up a bit.

if you're looking for cheap and easy mods you've covered or heard just about all of them.

The bushing will help the ride and general feel of the truck driving down the road. It feels tons better and handles alot better too.

Re: The start of Project ZR2

?? a 6" lift isnt going to affect gas mileage. hell i get the about the same mileage now on 36"s with 7" of lift on my zr2... cuase i regeared it to match the tires. if you do a 5 or 6" lift with some 33's you wont do too bad on gas.

Light bar looks good man! Def needs clear corners, as for suspension, like everyone said, t-bars and shackles. Other wise it looks good.

Re: The start of Project ZR2

thanks amosM couldnt do it with out ur help haha.

but if you think about it, liftin it 7 inches and buyin 36 inch tires. u are spendin money u culd spend on gas, im still in school i have no way of affording things like that, it would be nice tho, not gonna lie.

seems like clear corners is a must. and the poly bushings yes because of the ride improvement and price. Shackles are being ordered as we speak.

This will be my first vehicle that i have ever modified with, thanks for all you guy's help

i agree, i can do a sharp corner at about 30 mph and not even have a problem!

if ya're up to it, 2 or 3 inch BL it and put on some 33's (you could go with either 33x9.5 for less rubbing and better gas mileage or just go to 33x12.5) and some better than stock rims and cowl hood.

before you do anything more, CHANGE YOUR ENGINE MOUNT TO ENERGY SUSPENSION MOUNT!

the stock wont last very much! some say they lasted them 5 thousand mile and they're already toast, basically from bad design, they're just glued together, so its not that hard for the 4.3 to torn it off

Re: The start of Project ZR2

What I would do:

Take bug deflector off and debadge it
BFG All Terrains
Cowl Hood
Shackles to lift the rear
CAI
Exhaust
PCM reprogram
NO wheel spacers, leave the roof rack on since it is a 4x4(it's useful in the woods), and I would leave the orange corners on it, don't know why but I like them better than clears

Don't listen to any of these guys...

Take all the money you're going to blow and GO SOMEWHERE with your truck.

If you're going to spend money on anything, tires, shackles, and cranking your torsion-bars are the best bang for your buck.

Clear corners, painted tow hooks, and a cowl hood aren't going to get you through the mud or up the side of the hill.

hmmm. dont tint the windows if you plan on wheeling it.
mine are 2.5% all the way around and it sucks for wheeling (even in the day light)

Re: The start of Project ZR2

Haha, didn't realize that you lived in Germanton. Did you check out Stokes Tire? A lot of people say that they're cheaper than Piedmont. And if you're going to tint the windows, I just got my doorglasses matched with the back which were factory tinted, I took it to Triad Sun Control in Winston, they matched them perfectly and for a good price too.

Re: The start of Project ZR2

if it was me i would not have wasted the money on the light bar..instead would have mounted the lights right to the bumper...

leave the stickers and badging on...who cares....spend the money on some good tow straps if you plan to wheel it...and if you do plan to wheel get some better recovery points for the front and rear
from the looks of it the passanger side hook is already bent

Re: The start of Project ZR2

Baggey 22...But the sad thing is the tires were only 31's. urs were 34s? big difference. But true u still have to put them on and everything.

orangesonoma...i like the light bar i think it gives character to my truck. lol. But ur right the passenger side hook is bent due to a wreck that it was in b4 i bought the blazer.

I have to spend the money on the 4x4 as of yesterday, i went wheeling and obviously my 4x4 doesnt work. Whenever i push the 4wd high or low button im supposed to hear it lock in and it doesnt. What could be the problem?

oh btw the tires did great, got through about a foot of thick mud in 2wd

Re: The start of Project ZR2

I got there about 9 and left about 11, the guy doing the announcing, Gerald I think, Daddy did all the glass work in his 56. There were some nice cars, but some of the newer trucks looked like crap. Did you see the dakota in the upper parking lot, or the v6 stang? With crap like that, I could've entered my truck, lol.

Re: The start of Project ZR2

^^ you can pick it up at Offroad Warehosue for like 169.99 shipped I wanna say. They have a couple variations too. One has a long bottom bar other is like what'd pictured above. One is called the challenger and the other is the eliminator. Both are made by ORI (Off Road Innovations)

Anyways, the blazer looks great man, kinda like mine. lol little and stock. I'd get some shackles, bl, and some pizza cutters on the stock rims and do a little flarette trimming and then you'd be set. Just get head light covers to cover up the orange. turns. Thats what i did.

Re: The start of Project ZR2

Merit.
I did see the mustang....god i hate that thing, it was for sale at shamburgs in walnut cove at one time. It still is the same as when it left the lot. hahaha And there was a few crappy things there. The 69 Camaro Clone SS was baaad but 28000 was too much for a clone.

Haro. thanks. For now im gonna settle with what i got, i wanna buy a new bassboat so im gonna save up. But when i have to replace the new BFG ALL terrains i just put on, im just gonna go with a 5INch BDS lift and put huge tires on it and make it my offroad vehicle only

It's an off-road truck, not a BRO truck. Those are all bro mods.

Spend money on shit you can use, like tow straps (not the kind with hooks) and if you don't want to spend the $$ for a winch get some good come-alongs.
