Re: rear locker help

that'll do... will be a lil rough on the street but if you learn how to drive with it you'll be fine. see if you can find a better price on one of those though... i believe i've seen them cheaper

Re: rear locker help

I got a powertrax lockrite from ebay from rockyroad outfitters. They have them for around 325 on their website- i highly recommentd the lock rite- they are extremely easy to install and mine is working great- although noisy in parking lots if you give too much gas around the corners.

Re: rear locker help

i was hoping youd chime in gus as i saw your thread? any details you can give me, tips etc. the truck is mostly street driven but i want something stout to give me the edge when offroading. i dont care if its noisy, the flow 40 and the ride of a dump truck will get along fine with it.

Re: rear locker help

Hi,
I installed the powertrax no slip in my s-10 and I love it. You can barely tell its even there. unless your wheelin. The think the few extra dollars for the no-slip over the lock-right is well worth it.

Re: rear locker help

ill look into it, but im just looking for functionality. if its noisy or clunky, i could care less, adds to the roughness of the truck haha. how much for your detroit mark?

Re: rear locker help

1POS,
I went with the lockrite so I wouldn't have to deal with clutch plates wearing out and there is always 100% lockage. I'll try to get some videos after I get home from school showing what a 2wd with locker and a set of swampers can do. As far as tips- just follow the instructions for the install- definitely use grease to hold everything together- don't forget the thrust washers, and don't lose any of the little springs. I played with mine a while before putting it in just to see how it fits together and how it works. Its pretty cool. I put new ring and pinion in also- and that took forever- but the night after- I put in the locker and it took about an hour to button everything up. Go easy on it before you do any hard wheelin. Let me know if you have any more questions.

internally they work similar. but the detroit takes it a step further and replaces the whole carrier. i would say they are better too because they dont use those little springs and little pins, but bigger, simpler parts.

and FYI, the detroit "ez" is the lunch box version of the detroit, similar in price and function as the lockright.

i know lockright has spring rebuild kits for their lunchbox lockers because the springs and pins tend to break after a while. detroit might have the same thing. look on their website and see what they have in the way of rebuild kits

If I were going to invest the time and money into swapping something in there, I'd buy a good aftermarket unit personally. I really liked it when I used to have an AuburnGear High Performance series LS.
