Project truck
Well I am starting a project with my 98 ext cab 2.2 2wd. I am do a SFA swap I am going to use Toyota leaf spings front and rear with Dana 44s front and rear with passanger side drop running 37's, probablly 5.23 gears, and cross over steering. I am stuck on tranny and t-case. I plan on use using my 2.2 engine, I wanted to know what options I have for trannys and T-cases. does anyone have an idea?

Re: Project truck
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have alot of your project thought out.
Read through this thread, http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f134/w...to-4x4-363424/, what your asking was discussed there recently, so maybe it will help out a little. |

Re: Project truck
from what i have found is you can only really use a t-5 tranny. and i think a 231 t-case. dont quote me on that. idk i havent seen this but if there is a 2.2l 4x4 s-10 go and grab that tranny and t-case. but i've never seen or heard them

Re: Project truck
A 2.2 in a 4x4?
That's like putting a 2.8L in a 10-wheeler. |

Re: Project truck
Hey if a Samurai with essentially a motorcycle engine can turn 35s I don't see why a 2.2 can't do it either. It's all in the gearing

Re: Project truck
Right now I am running 32x12.50s with 4.56 gears and and I am doing fine. a turbo will be in the future but thats a long ways away. I have enough on my hands right now.

Re: Project truck
i run a 2.8, and though it wont go on the freeway very well, it does great on the trail. i would rock a 2.2 if that is what mine came with. but i do rock crawling, and that requires low gearing and lockers. i have dual cases, and at 135:1 the 2.8 has enough torque to get the 38's moving anyway i want.

Re: Project truck
I plan on using this for rock crawling. I havent decided if I will break down and pay for a locker or use the old school Lincoln locker. If you gear it right it really doesnt matter what size engine I have I can cruise 80 al day long in 5th gear riding on 32.

Re: Project truck
Gearing will compensate for the extra leverage huge tires create when at lower speeds, but with an engine low on torque, the gears can't overcome the additional weight, rolling resistance, and wind when trying to go fast with huge heavy tires on a jacked up truck, but if it is a dedicated wheeler then the torque output isn't an issue at all.
