You guy are all sluts, you know that? Especially Tim. I actually haven't gotten the tail gate done. Since my landlord is being kinda dumb I have to weld outside and we've had CRAZY weather the past week.
And as I said like 2 weeks ago, the tires will most likely come last. But I'm hoping to have Chris come here on Sunday and help me finish up some stuff.

Anyone have a link so that I know how many ounces to put into my 34s when I do get them mounted? And can I just use any kind of BB?

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS

http://www.innovativebalancing.com/BigTirechart.htm

just a little report. i recently pulled my spare tire off the rim because i am experimenting with mounting a tire inside a tire. anyways, i noticed that the finish of the bb's had flaked off of them, but there was no rust to speak of and nothing really seeming wrong with them. they have been in for a couple years now, and i just used the cheap steel bb's from walmart.

go ahead and do your self a favor and use more than the chart says. if you ever rip the tire tread or do something like i would probably do, you will need it.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS

So I just got in from attempting to do my tires. After almost two hours I was unsuccessful. We broke the bead on the outside by carefully driving over it, then finished the bead using two hammers. But we can't get the rim out of the tire.
Any ideas/suggestions? I'm gonna try again tomorrow but more thoughts would be helpful

Like soapy water on the tire?
You should take a video of you doing it, then I'll see how you do it

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS

yes, soapy water helps the bead get past the lip of the rim. when we do it, we use 3 spoons, or more specifically, 2 spoons and a big pry bar that is just used to free one of the spoons.

we start my inserting the two spoons about 4-6" apart, and pull bead over the lip. then take the pry bar and use it to "keep the place" of one of the spoons. then use the free spoon to take another 4" of bead, and work your way around. be sure that the pry bar stays pretty much in the same spot while doing this. one more thing to remember, be sure you are doing it from the front of the rim (unless its a reverse center rim) and make sure the bead of the tire is in the low spot in the rim 180* out from where the spoons are.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS

Okay, I'll try the soapy water. We got one side off pretty easily once finding the correct way to do it. We were also trying to do it with two small pry bars. Tomorrow I'll get bigger bars.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS

I have the second set of hands. And I'll see what I can scrounge up for two or three pry bars.
Any other tips? Besides pry bars, hands, soapy water?

dont get macho and try and take too much of the bead. if you cant get 4" of new ground, then settle for 2".

That's why I started with the rear ones, I don't care about them cause they're worthless. By the time I get to the two front ones I'll be good at it so I can save them for spares for you and me.

I bet I've watched Gump's 252 pound ass mount 50 tires without even using a tire tool or hammer. Just soapy water and ALOT of force.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS

It's not the mounting that has become an issue (yet) just getting the old tires off the rims

Yeah, I know, mounting them will be cake after you get the old ones off. The way Donahue told you to take them off works great, been doing it for years.

Re: Project: 1995 s10 SAS

So I have a bit of a dilemma to figure out VERY SOON. I was planning to change my front leaf springs so I could use shorter s10 ones instead of F150 leafs. But I did some measuring today and the shackle itself would only sit like 2" (maybe like 1.5") closer to the tire. So it doesn't really do much for my break over angle.
So here's my three options:
1. Grind off the shackle to frame mount and move it slightly which enables use of a smaller shackle. (shorter shackle is stock s10 shackle)
OR
2. Grind off the shackle to frame mount and weld in another plate to be able to use the shorter springs with the shorter shackle. (shorter shackle is stock s10 shackle)
OR
3. Leave it alone and just wheel the crap out of it where it is with the longer shackles (shackles are 1" over stock s10 shackles)

The reason I ask is because Chris is coming over this weekend to help me finish up the project. If he comes and we do the springs I'll have to wait another week to get EVERYTHING done. But we may be able to get 90% of stuff done and be wheeling by midweek. So I'm somewhat torn on what to do. I need input, do people think that the shorter shackle moving like 1.5" forward will REALLY make a difference or should I just move it so I can use the shorter shackle on the longer leafs?
Opinions would be great! Thanks

And just so you all know, list of things to finish:
-Mount shocks (ordered yesterday, arriving tomorrow)
-Tranny Xmember (have idea, just need to DO it)
-front drive shaft (If XJ one is too short make it out of tube)
-change shackle (if I decide to do it)
-finish mounting tires
-Winch and finish front bumper (not necessary for wheeling . . . yet)

After like 10 more minutes today we got the tire completely off the rim. Then we were working on getting the new tire ON and it started to DOWNPOUR so we had to stop. It's a pain in the ass, I may just take them somewhere Friday.
