ok im a noob and need/want a lift

Hey guys im new to this forum but so far this place rocks!! But what i would like to know is what is the best height to lift a 99 S10 reg cab long bed 4x4? Now in know some people are gonna say lift it as high as you can but i would like something that is simply to install and the longest lasting with the least amount of problems. Also i dont want to replace anything major (transfer case rear end motor etc.) i can adjust them but would rather not replace them! I have access to a lift and most shop tools needed. So lets here it!!

what kind of lift do you have on your truck tim? And what kind of lift and body kit do you recommend and why?

Re: ok im a noob and need/want a lift

i did a SAS (Solid Axle Swap) used a jeep front axle.

if i were to get an IFS lift, it would be the 5 or 6" kit, just because it lowers your front diff aswell as control arms and what not. the 2" kits do not. dropping everything allows you to TRY to keep the cv angles in good shape.

as for bodylift, i dont really think it matters. i am running the 2" PA (performance accessories) BL

so if i did the 5 or 6" lift then would i have to do any welding or cutting or extreme fab work? and do you know what a good suspension lift would run?

They are typically pricey and like Tim said, don't use any lift that just replaces the torsion key and doesn't drop the A-arms. All they are are a glorified torsion bar crank that is hard on you CV axles.

installing a ifs lift will require minor cutting of the upper arm mounts on the frame. I used a sawzall, but you can used a grinder if needed.

Re: ok im a noob and need/want a lift

the biggest downfall to the s-series as far as lifting is the cost of conventional aftermarkets lifts. there are really 3 ways to lift an s10 that i see. you can go somewhat cheap but be limited on the lift amount, such as running a t-bar crank/shackles. the next real step above this is like the 5-6" kits that run a couple grand usually, even more if they need to be installed professionally. the third step is more drastic, and usually requires either a lot of money or a lot of time and knowledge, with it usually being some combination. this is swapping out the IFS system and going with something that is basically homemade and designed by the individual. this later route is the one i took, because i could get more out of it in the way of performance (not necessarily just height, though i did get about 12" of lift).
