new tire carrier

hey guys i like the look of the blazer tire carrier but i dont want to put one on my trucks bedside so i thought of a new idea. i seen this new carrier in four wheeler magizine called the tiregate. they are 700 bucks so i thought i may try my hand at making my own. would any of u guys be interested in one if this one i make goes good? im not gonna charge near that much for one. im gonna try it on my s10 first to see how it goes.

Re: new tire carrier

i was going to go with something similar to that, but i ended up making it hinge on the bottom edge instead of the side. it makes it pull straight down and not too the side. incidentally, when i put the tire on and off the carrier, its at knee level, not chest level. this helps because my tires are about 150 lbs each and hard to carry because they are big. a big wing nut captures the rim with the center hub hole, and not the lug holes. this makes it easier to line up. the pictures also dont show it, but the carrier will swing down until the hoop touches the ground. right now it ties into a little hook on the floor with a strap, but eventually, it will be integrated into the exo cage.

Re: new tire carrier

I would love one, I would prefferable want one that would mount the the bumper or something so I could still have a tail gate. But it does not matter to much, and hinged on the side sounds better to me since I need to put my ramps on to get my quad in the truck.

Re: new tire carrier

That's a damn cool idea. I hope Baggy sees this before he builds his gate.

Re: new tire carrier

Already thought of it, and personally I don't want something like that. I like being able to see through the tail gate. So having a tire in the way would be annoying to me.

Re: new tire carrier

How are you going to mount your spare anyway? I still haven't decided how I'm going to mount mine...

Re: new tire carrier

I have a few ideas Chris. But I need to go to a junk yard first to see about putting an idea into action.

And I think if you're gonna make these getting a good paint job on them is important. Or just sell them all with the customer KNOWING that they will be bare metal or JUST spray primer or something.

Re: new tire carrier

I'd sell 'em bare or powder coated.

Re: new tire carrier

i would probably sell them either way, bare or primer. may throw a coat of black on if someone wanted it.
it just depends how much steel is around here, havent been to the steel shop in a while. after i find out how much it will cost to make it ill figure out a price. im not gonna try to jack the price up like the other guys do.
