Re: front bumper

Here's mine, but as you can tell, it's not finished yet. Search for the WOOT thread here in the liftin it section about 3-4 pages in, Donahue(3 leaf fab) has some CAD drawings that look real good & if your patient you can wait till his are ready to sell and save yourself the trouble.

Re: front bumper

here are my 2 different designs find my bumper in progress thread, i did a lil write up on the one. sorry for if too many pics, also i recomend bedlinering, if u do hit stuff on a regular basis, a lot better than paint

this is the first bumper i did turned out kinda nice

a side shot, i see hole not filled in under headlight

one for my 97 fulsize chevy, sandblasted after road salt ate my bedliner away, i didnt put it on thick enough the first time i ran out.

one i made for a blazer not quite finished, i see i dont have the holes for the blinkers either

Hey Brothers,
Here is mine, a good prerunner bumper built by metul munky (dezertdimes.com). I hope ya all like it. We are getting ready to do my back end so I can mount 2 spare tires intergrated to the rear bumper.

check out georgesblazah to see his front bumper.. although his bumper is no longer in production. over at s10extremist.org there was a std cab secondgen that had a sweet bumper on it somewhat similar to georges. i'll see if i can dig it up after i get home from class!

hey Brother,
You have to make sure that you welding skills. Get a wrapper wheel and grind it down to pure metal. A grinder wheel with cut grooves and reduce the metal surface. A wrapper just cleans the surface and it is all clean to weld. Same thing on the tubing that you are using. It has to be "bear" metal that you weld to.

Hey brother thanks. right now I am running the fabtech 6.5 short arm kit . It sucks!! too stiff. I have up graded with HD ball joints and wheel spacers. The back is stock but i pulled my bedsides. I have hannemans Fiberglass up front. By the end of the year i plan on upgrading to a AIM or CST long travel kit for the front. Get rid of the stock leafs and put longer shackles and deaver springs on it. I mostly hang out on www.dezertdimes.com and I don't think I have my PM set up on this site but I will get to it. Again Thanks Brother

As you can see in my bumper pic, you have to remove your stock bumper and hangers (mounts) and box in the front of the frame where the old bumper mounts were. You can tie in there with the bumper support tubes. Also on the side of the front frame rails for the side supports. If you wants pics of what I am talking about, let me know I will post some.

hey brother here you go. One pic is where we cut off the old bumper mounts and boxed it in and welded the supports on each side. Then we welded a support to each frame rail on the out site. On the 2nd gen they have a little skid plate that comes off the frame under the engine and welded supprts there and attached my lower skid plate. let me know if you need more or whatever.

Re: front bumper

well i see what yer say bout the welds, its the first thing i welded up i guess. they arnt about the aperance just that they hold, just went for penetration so i could grind on em. Im a lot more experienced now and can lay a better bead, my theory back then was shlt it hold thats good enough for me, actually my welding teacher was a farmer so thats were the theory came from.

Ya roger brother like i was saying I wasn't hat'n. I was wondering why your two middle supports (=) are in 2 pieces? Not long enough material? Did you use DOM or 4130 mild steel? I am with you sometimes it isn't how it looks but how it works. I am learning to weld as we speak and my buddy who is teaching says practice, practice practice!!!! To get a good looking bead technique. As a matter of fact he just picked up a spot on dezerttv.com/garage. They are putting a rollcage in a ford ranger prerunner. His name is jeff aka metul munky (dezertdimes.com) and they asked him to come and show them how install one and welding techiniques. If you get a chance, check it out. He is a great guy. I posted his truck pic a couple of threads ago in this topic. We are working a rear bumper/hold 2 spare tires confirguration for my truck, kinda like his in the pic but mine are going to be right next to each other because I haven't caged my bed yet. But hey keep welding brother, it is addictive. Bruce
