Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

When you order the shackle mounts you can order it with or without rubber bushings. Just make sure when you weld them in you TAKE THE BUSHING OUT. I forgot once, now I have one slightly melty bushing

Good point, I think the VSS sends info to the VSSB, which the computer reads to know when to shift, again, I think.

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

If I run into that problem then I will change it out with a turbo 350 trans. The front bushings in the shackles came with them from sky. They are a 2 piece with sleeve insert.

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

the sky manufacturing kit is really nice for the price. it includes almost everything you need for the front axle mounts. as for the trans it was discussed in the planning stages that a turbo 350 might be the best bet.

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

Wouldn't you need something to tell the motor that the trans is there and ok if you put a turbo 350 in there?

A lot of people will cry about putting a Ford in a Chevy, but if that's what you've got, use it. I'm not brand prejudice, I have a little Ford and Dodge in my truck now and it has had some International, Jeep, and Cadillac in it in the past.

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

Found out some good news today. A mechanic told me that I will be fine using the stock transmission and 85 s10 blazer transfer case without the VSS. He told me that I just wouldnt have a speedometer, which is no big deal cause I can run a mechanical speedo. Also all my steering stuff came in except my steering block which should be here tomorrow. Now just waiting on finishing up the brakes and should be done.

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

i still like the ford in a chevy thing just because you blow me so much shit about my ford truck. i mean you already got ford axles, drop pitman arm and steering block so why not just finish it off right. ford powertrain and it might actually go through the mud lol.

dont shoot guys im just messin with him. you have no idea how much crap i get about my ford in his garage. i was the one pushing to do the swap in the first place. he wanted to do it and i just forced the issue alittle sooner than he was planning. i mean what are friends for except peer pressure and to be there to laugh and then make sure your ok after you injure yourself. both of which happen often in his garage.

just run what you've got, drive it around for awhile. if you dont like it, then convert it to inverted T. if you dont like that then you will have to spend more money and convert to conventional crossover. while you may have problems with this setup, there is no reason to be preemptive and spend money fixing a problem that may not exist.

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

No I havent seen your steering. I have the stock box with a dropped pitman arm, raised steering arm and 3 inch steering block. But my thing is I dont think it will work cause of how the draglink is setup with it. I thought about just selling the brand new steering arm and doing the crossover steering.

Heres my setup:

I have an astro van steering box, 4"drop Ford pitman arm, knuckles milled drilled and tapped for high steer, and a Sky Manufacturing Dana44 tall arm.

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

Cool thanks for the info. Yes it does have flat top knuckles. Im prolly gonna take the knuckle off tomorrow and get it sent out to have it tapped and stuff. I have 2 raised steering arms if anyone is interested. One is brand new not even installed and the other is used

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

my steering is a bit different. i have a astro box with a ford drop pitman arm. i do not have the conventional "flat top" knuckle, i used the drivers side chevy knuckle on the passenger side. its already designed for a steering arm from the factory. flipping my knuckle allowed me to run my tie rod behind the axle, which helps keep it protected. i used sky's tall arm designed for highsteer. i also had to run my pitman arm 180* out to get the tires to turn left when the wheel was turned left. i used the same TRE throughout (ES 2234R's) which caused my draglink to bind (because i didnt use a DLE which has more range of motion), so i had to bend the drag link. i've got about 12" of lift.

Re: 95 Blazer solid axle swap

Donahue, dont the DLE's have a bigger taper too? I think I got one one time and it wouldnt fit in my high steer arm. Just wanna make sure he doesnt get the wrong parts.

Oh yeah, my truck has about 10" of lift.
