Edit: [ I bought this truck used w/ about 60,000 miles on it]
Well after beating on the truck for about 40,000 miles in about a year and a half, and replacing the fuel pump, I decided to look under the truck to see what was up w/ this vibration, clunking, chirping around corners, ticking under accellerarion, and clacking/ clunking under deceleration. I jacked the truck up and turned the right wheel. The left wheel went in the same direction, I heard noise near the right rear wheel, I saw debris fall from the rear U-Joint, and I noticed some paint flaking off the rear diff cover. I can shake the U-Joint by hand, as well as the rear wheels. There seems to be a line, like something hit the inside of the cover on the rear diff, that is the only place paint is flaking. I started the truck and I hear a noise in the clutch unless I put my foot on the pedal. Oh and in the tranny, I have no 3rd gear, and it sometimes wants to stay in 4th. I have to shift to 5th to get it outta 4th sometimes. and that taes a bit of force. If I try to go to 1st before shifting to 5th, it seems to lock the tranny like putting an auto in park. All this said, I either need a whole new drivetrain, or I need to upgrade what I can when I can. First up Is the U-Joint, then the rear end and rear wheel bearings, then the clutch ,tranny and front U joint. Umm any suggestions? Does my list appear to be in order as far as importance? I am on a very strict budget. About $140 a week. Can U help me? Last edited by Lenny95NeoN : 06-15-2005 at 08:30 PM. |

Re: Whole Drivetrain Effed up
Old rear end has been out for a while. I will be rebuilding it. I also replaced the rear U- joint.
I tried to post pics up of the old beat up 8.5 and the temporary 7.5 I put in, but it didn't work. Lesse if this one works. Hole in 8.5 diff cover Last edited by Lenny95NeoN : 10-23-2005 at 06:57 PM. |
