Whats the best way to install a trans?

I think i ruined my first trans just like someone on here by putting the converter on the flywheel and then into the trans. So now I went and bought a new 700r4 and this time I have put the converter on the trans, when you push it as far into the trans as you can I turned it and heard a click. Then I pulled it to see if it would come out and it did, was it not supposed to come out after it clicked? Also my question is whats the best was to put my new trans in, Ive only got 2 jackstands and a jack and im the only one working on it. Thanks

Re: Whats the best way to install a trans?

keep turning and pushing in on the torque converter, eventually it will stop going in. MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT SLIDE FORWARD WHEN YOU PUT THE TRANSMISSION UNDER THE CAR.

You will want to jack the front of the motor up while you are trying to install the transmission, slide the trans on and bolt it up. Then you can tighten the torque converter bolts.

I found one of those ATV jacks works the best for supporting the transmission.

x2- you definitely arent gonna have success by bolting the converter up first. typically, the converter will "click" in to the trans twice as you turn it.... just dont let it slide outwards during trans installation

Re: Whats the best way to install a trans?

now im having issues with my converter, theres about an inch of space between the bolt holes and the flywheel. everything else on the trans is bolted up nicely, what would be the problem?

you will have a gap b/t the convertor and flywheel, but deff not a inch, you should be within 1/4 inch or so.

Yeah I was overestimating a bit. Now it tries to start but its getting no spark. Im wondering if its because I have no hot wire from the fuse block to the destributer?
