what engines will bolt up to the t-5?

Ok i have a 1993 2.8 5 speed s10. the 2.8 just isn't cutting it any more.
i really don't want to do a 350 swap. i want something that will get decent gas mileage have good torque and be easy enough for a cave man to swap in.
I just need to know what engines will bolt up no problem to my t-5?

Re: what engines will bolt up to the t-5?

the t5 came behind the small blocks in the third gen camaros/firebird/etc, so anything with the old small block bellhousing bolt pattern it should bolt up to

4.3, 305, 327, 350, 383, 400

so if i got the same (or close) 4.3 and the engine mounts could i possibly just swap it easy peasy. what all would i need from a donor vehicle or junkyard.

Re: what engines will bolt up to the t-5?

more or less yeah, anything you find is going to be tbi, which means youll need the computer and harness for the engine youre swapping in, so like you said, a complete donor vehicle will make this much easier, dont try to use any of your existing 2.8 wiring, it wont work

i know you said you didnt want a 350 swap, which i assume you mean v8's in general... but take into consideration a tpi 305 out of a camaro/firebird.. its not uncommon to see those get 20 mpg, and being a tpi they make great down low torque which you said you were after, and as long as you have a donor car to pull it from, it would not be any different than the 4.3 swap youre talking about

food for thought

Re: what engines will bolt up to the t-5?

the 305 was actually something i was thinking about. one of my dads friends just swapped out his 305 for a 350 in his camaro. but it is in parts and has no harness with it. what would i need to get the 305 running in my truck with the t-5?
would i need custom motor mounts or special harness? how hard is it to shoe horn a v8 in these trucks?

youre telling me like i dont know that? i built the one thats in my truck... i listed it because its becoming a common enough engine and "383" is thrown around a lot anymore, to someone that may not know that a 383 is made from a 350 block and doesnt see it listed could assume that it wont work, i almost wrote 377 too but hardly anyone destrokes a 400 it seems

im just covering all the bases

as far as bolting to transmissions and bolting to engine mounts yes, its the same as a 350, but externally the 400's are slightly different than the 350's, for instance, a 400 has 3 freeze plugs on each side of the block, any other small block only has 2

The 2.8 doesn't have the smallblock bolt pattern, It's a 60* V6 and the smallblocks are 90*V8, so, no smallblock is going to bolt up to your T5 unless you get a bell housing for a small block.

A 3.4 will bolt to it.

i was wondering about that myself, i wasnt sure what family the 2.8s were... so the t5 that he has, has a different bellhousing than the t5's in the camaros?

Re: what engines will bolt up to the t-5?

Camaros had both 60* V6s and 90* V8s. It depends on the motor. IDK if the tranny itself is the same (kinda doubt it), but the bellhousing is different. 2.8L is from the 60* family - a norrow bolt pattern, 4.3L and all smallblocks are 90* - a much wider pattern.
