trans problem

i went to take the truck for a test drive the other day to see how it ran after the body drop. the trans shifted from first to second great, then when it was trying to go into third, it acted like it was in neutral. could it be the third-fourth clutches out, or maybe a valve not opening letting in fluid to change to third? someone also told me that there was a cable going to it that needed to be adjusted right for it to go into higher gear. i changed it from a 5 speed to an auto and didnt know that there had to be a cable, what could it be? thanks.

Re: trans problem

if you swapped in a 700r4 you have a kickdown cable. if that cable is not hooked up you CAN and WILL damage the tranny

Re: trans problem

ok well firstof all its not a kickdown

700r4 cable is a throttle valve cable

it runs your shifts and if itsnot set properly you can kill that trans pretty quickly in short order

to set it properly push the lock button on the cable housing at the throttle cable bracket on the intake manifold

pull the cable hopusing itself all the way forward as it will go,towards the throttle unit

now open the throttle linkage all the way by hand under the hood until its all the way open

you will hear a couple clicks

this is the cable setting itself

let go of throttle now

done

thats it

it is now set correctly

it should make for noticeably quicker firmer shifts

if the tranis is stillnot shifting at all or correctly

then it may be too late

try fluid seal conditioner bottle asap

sometimes funny acting trannies stop acting funny with seal conditioner added to them

i use the stuff in all my trannies regardless if they are working fine or not

good insurance for them

good luck
