Trans ?

I have a 1996 Blazer with a 4.3/4L60E auto trans. I could drop it down to 1st gear and romp on it but it shifts on its own to 2nd gear once the R's get to high. I guess its some kind of safety thing? Is there any way I could make it stay in 1st gear no matter how high I rev it? Its really annoying in a mud bog when you want it to stay in 1st without it shifting and bogging me down.

Re: Trans ?

Governor will make it shift. Transgo, b&m, tci and others make shift kits for these trannies. Actually not that hard to do yourself, if you are careful and follow directions well. If you are looking for engine braking you may have to go to a new valvebody. Also not that big a deal. Actually the reall tranny work is in the clutches. discs and band, not part of the valve body. For the valve body, no special tools are needed. You will need to know for sure what year you have. There is a dividing line or two in years and the 86/87 700r4 marker is a real important one. Since you know what yours is, for sure, it wont be hard to find the right kit. Other than electronics and renaming of the tranny, the 700r4 and 4l60 are basicly the same. Double check and make sure yours has never been replaced.

Re: Trans ?

meh, wont work, you have to have torque management taken off your computer, or drill a hole in the valvebody to vent actuator feed oil from the 1-2 shift valve. you could also interrupt the ground wire going to the solenoid, but it might pop a code. easiest way is to get a kit for the valvebody that will let you hold 1st gear. and trust me, a kit like this will be very complicated, and you might want to take it to a pro, as once you drill holes, you cant undrill them.
