Re: swapping a 4l60e to a 700r4
Completely different. 4L60E- computer controlled transmission, 700R-4 mechanicaly controlled transmission. Since you will just have wires laying around that used to be plugged into the 4L60E the PCM will see it as no input from the transmission and I have seen a few auto to manual swaps were the PCM jump the RPMs to 1000 or more and thats were it idles. You might be able to get away with a PCM swap out of a manual trans truck but not sure what wiring you would have to get into. Would be a good idea to get some wiring diagrams (1991-2 s10 with 700R-4, 1994 4l60E, and 1994 manual trans) of the transmission controls. Big thing I see with the swap to a manual trans PCM is the TCC (I think it stand for torque converter coupler but anyways it is just the abbriviation for toque converter lock up) contoller. I guess you could wire a stand alone harness for the lock up with the manual trans PCM. Im not 100% on the speedo connection. If the 700R-4 has a mechanical speedo you can buy a converter for around 85 bucks to switch it over for an electical input. Dont see this to often normally people just swap in a v-8 while there at it. Thats the great deal Im waiting on.

The Swap Should Be Strait Forward Your Speedo Should Work With No Problums And Honestly The Tcc Is Not Needed. Unless You Realy Want To Squeeze An 1/8 Mile To The Gallon Outs Ur Dime. Before My 5.7 Conversion I Did The Same Swap As You Are Planning. And Did Not Even Have To Relocate The Trans Cross Member.

WELL NOT COMPLEATLY ONE IS A MECHANICAL TRANS AND THE OTHER IS COMPUTER CONTROLED, BUT JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS FALSE.. Last edited by bcpd_03 : 11-21-2009 at 01:36 AM. |

Re: swapping a 4l60e to a 700r4
Im just used to the later trucks. Wasnt sure what Gm did with the 4l60E before 1996. I thought there would be little changes since its an electricaly controlled transmission. Well asumptions make ass's of everyone.
Really just used to looking under the hood of my 97 and was wondering were the 20 or so wires that are hooked into the trans would end up and what the PCM would do. |

Re: swapping a 4l60e to a 700r4
So direct swap then? i dont have to splice into any wires from the old conection i can just leave it be? Do i need to hook anything up to the 700r4? i see there is a 4 pin connector is that for the tc lock up and speedo? And did all 700r4's have "kick down cables"
Thanks, Cliff |
