Replacing Oil Pan gasket

Hey there Im new to the site and to the S-10 world...I just bought an S10 a few days ago, and i notice its leaking from the oil pan (bad gasket I assume) so I took it to a shop and they threw it on the lift and I could see that it was a bad gasket. In order to change the gasket, they told me they had to pull the motor...is this true? how hard would it to DIY...???
oh and its a 98 S10 4cyl 5 speed (i think a 2.2)

Re: Replacing Oil Pan gasket

u have to do an engine lift to get to the gasket cuz the pan sits right on the front axle. my uncle replaced his oil pump by putting 4 4x4's on the engine mounts but he had take out the old pump and put in the new pump blind. so yes u can probably DIY but its easier if u just pay to have it done i think.

Re: Replacing Oil Pan gasket

yes espcailly a 2.2L

this is a big job and you gotta remove alot of parts and more to get the pan off these things evne getting the starter off these is a huge ordeal its not fun at all. the exhaust is right in the way and all the brackets and engine mounts need bolts pulled and wow.....

seal conditioner in the oil and tighten up the pan bolts, then see how it is

are you sure its not the RMS leaking?

or the FMS?

Re: Replacing Oil Pan gasket

don't 2.2's have a aluminum oil pan? if so you can lower the pan replace the (O ring) type gasket.you can stretch it around the OUTSIDE of the o/p and slip it into the slot, put it up and tighten the bolts. My 4.3 has a o ring type.
