Quick 4l60e question

I have a 1997 s-10 ext. cab 5.7l 350 with the ford 8.8 rear end and 1st gen driveshaft. My original 4l60e just lost 3rd and overdrive. I want to swap in a 4l60e from a fullsize truck that had the 5.7l. My only question is that when i search this...

I am not quite sure what option to choose. I chose the A.T 4X2 4L60E 5.7L Extended cab. Is there any difference b/w the trans in the non ext. cab? Which option would be best to choose. I am looking for the most straight forward trans swap possible...
thanks

Re: Quick 4l60e question

Around '97 there were some changes/upgrades. 2wd is 2wd on the 4l60e. The main thing is to make sure it has the same type wiring hookups as yours. You need to know what vehicle the trans originally came from. If it was originally from a '98 chevy truck then your choice will be fine.

Re: Quick 4l60e question

Yes i am looking for a '98 or '99 since i believe those are my only choices for a straightfoward swap. So if the trans is from a 98 it should have the same wiring hook up and there should be no extra wiring or computer work done right?

Re: Quick 4l60e question

youre right rhe 4L60E was changed electronically every couple years or so and in some cases one year deal only

a local junkyard can list them all for you if you need.

they have hollanders etc

or just use the car-part.com search engine and sort by year

Re: Quick 4l60e question

I decided to just have my 4l60e rebuilt with a heavy duty rebuild kit. It will cost about 400 more than the trans i was looking at but it will be brand new and will be far superior than the stock v8 4l60e anyways
