Re: P1870 code..tcc
IIRC that is the code that tells you your transmission is on its way to a rebuild. The valve you are speaking of regulates pressure to make the tranny go into overdrive and when it doesnt make enough pressure it tries to shift to od but cant. The proper fix is rebuild and bore/hone (whatever they do) and replace the valve with an oversized one...
The other is to put a shift kit in it that will build the needed pressure, but its rumoured to only prolong the rebuild process. Some say it solves the problem for good others say otherwise. |

Re: P1870 code..tcc
check your fluid
i had 1870 and it was listed as trans component slippage, i knew i was low on fluid though, the code does not always come up. |

Re: P1870 code..tcc
no my fluid is perfect level..and ya the tranny does try to go to overdrive then kicks back out..it just blows me away that it sat all winter never moved i changed the fluid and filter now this is happening..i thought the 4l60e didnt need a shift kit all it need was a vette servo and the sonnax kit

Re: P1870 code..tcc
school time.
overdrive is obama lock-up is mccain the 1870 code has to do with lockup, not OD to tell if the iso/converter valve in the transgo kit will work, you have to wet test it. 99 times out of 100, if you catch the complaint fast enough, the valve is just starting to wear the valvebody bore, and when the trans oil gets too hot, instead of stroking the valve, it leaks past. the transgo valve does not seal in the area that wears, it seals in an unworn area, and the valve is solid, instead of being 2 pieces like factory. it also eliminates the pwm buzz that makes the valve wear the valve body casting out. |

Re: P1870 code..tcc
and the sonnax kit with reamers is about 300 bucks.
transgo kit is 50. the sonnax is great stuff, but is the convertor is glazed at all, prepare for trans failure soon. as the sonnax valve retains the pwm feel for lock up. |

Re: P1870 code..tcc
My truck threw that same code and had to have my transmission rebuilt, but I've heard stories where you could save the truck without a rebuild, I don't know much about motors and what not...
All I know is I had the same code and ended up rebuilding the damn tranny |
