Manual Transmission Issue

This just happen 2 days ago, were the stick shifter feel soft like its made out of jello. It was working fine then when i got in to go to work it felt like that. I thought the transmission had broke, but i was still able to shift 1-5 & even rev. The problem is not the shifting it shifts fine but just wanted to see if anyone new what the problem could be with the softness of the shifter stick.
