Driveshaft problems

so I bought a 99 sonoma witha 4/6in drop about a week ago. I was driving it home from work saturday when I started to har noise in the rearend so I pulled over and called my dad. we got it home and determined it was my u-joint, so we pulled the driveshaft and the u-joint looks more like a cv-joint and we have never delt with those before so i was wandering if anyone on here has delt with these and is their anything special i have to do because it is lowered? Please help!!! thanks.

Re: Driveshaft problems

If you have double cardan joints you don't have to but a new driveshaft. I have dwelled over this decicion for a while trying to decide whether to rebuild my driveshaft or get another driveshaft without those double cardans. I rebuilt mine and it only cost slightly over $40 and I am good to go. No more clicking or vibrations. People will say do not rebuild them and that they are shit but they will last if you grease them regularly and make sure your pinion angle is good. It does take a little longer to rebuild them and it's a little more of a hassel but it really isn't bad at all. Just takes some time. Don't let these other people on here fool you.

Re: Driveshaft problems

Oh yeah and you might want to make sure your center bearing bushing/mount plate is in good shape. Check the rubber around the inside of that square bracket in the center of your driveshaft. If it has any cracks or rips in it just replace it. Make sure your center bearing is greased as well. Don't be hesitant to do this all yourself. I did mine and I have never delt with U joints before and it was't bad. Lots of people on here say those double cardans are a nightmare but they aren't.

Fool him? no I'm not fooling anyone, after re-building my cv joints 3 times with good pinion angles I was fed up and went for a new driveshaft, trust me it's 10x better.
