I could see the vibration from the clutch locking off-center doing all kinds of damage. You absolutley need a pilot bushing.

Re: Do nv3500 4.3l 5spd have pilot bearings?

could be a good reason why i'm blowing slave cylinders, 500lbs of torque twists the input and starts rubbing on the slave

came in the clutch kit. Youll need a puller to get it out.

Theres also an adapter which GM calls an insert you will need if converting from a A/T engine.

Re: Do nv3500 4.3l 5spd have pilot bearings?

Funny thing on this subject though is I had a guy bring me his 2.5 S10 that he uses to pull all kinds of junk to the iron metal place to me to change the clutch about 2 months ago. He said it had just had a new clutch put in about a year before. Well I pulled the transmission and it lookied like someone had shaved their cat in side the bellhousing hairlike strands everywhere. The whole front of the disc was exposed to the rivets. It had an insert but no pilot bushing at all. I'm guessing the prior mechanic pulled it and forgot to replace it.

My pilot bearing is oil impregnated bronze. I dont think roller bearings are a great idea in that environment. Its too dirty and dusy with the clutch dust getting in there.

ok lets set this straight

a pilot BUSHING is a solid chunk of brass or bronze

a pilot BEARING is a unit that has needle bearings in it. its an actual bearing where the two half's can spin seperatly

Thats just two different types of bearings. There are three different types, plain, ball and roller. Whats commonly known as a pilot bushing is infact a pilot bearing its a plain bearing. Just like crankshafts have plain bearings.

The oil impregnated bronze heats up and oil seeps out of the metal.

w/e works man there all going to eventually wear out. good luck. How'd you get the old one out? Mine was a pain in the ass to get out. I had to machine a puller.

i never had one in there... ever, i've only had the truck for a little over a year...explains why the last owner went threw 2 transmissions.

i bought a moroso SBC one today, they never ordered my ram but swapped it out for a needle bearing moroso.
