10 bolt rear seal replacement/posi upgrade prices

What's a decent price to get a 10 bolt serviced, say to replace all the seals and throw my posi carrier in there (and keep the same gears from the open diff). My pinion and axle seals are starting to get bad (the axle seals are getting REAL bad - pinion not so much), and I figured while it's apart, I'll throw the posi in there too. I won't be doing the work because I don't want the headache of adjusting the backlash and all the other FUN stuff that comes with the gears - so I''m looking to get some rough pricing. Every mechanic I've talked to so far wasn't competent enough for me to trust them setting up my gears, so I can't seem to get a real estimate.

If it's too much, I'd just get a disc rear out of a blazer.

Seals aren't too difficult to replace. The pinion and axles seals are common repairs and can be performed by any tech - probably 2-3 hrs plus parts. Prices depend on how much the shop charges for labor. Swapping the carrier will significantly increase the price and although its not something most shops have a lot of experience in, a transmission shop or GM dealer should be able to do the job right.
What brand "posi" are you planning on installing? If its a used Gov-Lok (OEM G80) don't waste your time or money. It either doesn't work or will break shortly after installation.
When it comes to differentials, there is no cheap way to upgrade. Buy new parts and have a reputable shop install it. Quality costs money but you only do it once.
I personally wouldn't install a junkyard rearend unless it was rebuilt. If your current housing is leaking, what makes you think the junkyard one won't need work?

then do it. it takes a good mechanic and specialized tools to properly set up a diff.

id like to see your average shade tree mechanic set up a diff and not have it howl or wine once its done.

That's exactly why I won't swap the carrier myself, I don't want to screw the whole rear end up.

yeah thats not bad pricing. I am GM factory trained, ASE Certified and i still hate setting up rearends. Its VERY tedious when it comes down to getting a good pattern, setting backlash correctly, and all that. It might also be because I have only done 3 diffs, but even a senior mechanic usually doesnt care for setting up a diff and it still takes them quite a while to get it all correct.
