Well, I've made you wait long enough ... 98SS Bagged

It's been done for about 2 weeks but I wanted to surprise the Bama crew by rolling up at stock height, airing out, and dragging to a stop at the meet this past weekend. Some of the faces were worth all the work.
->Click Here<- for the album of build pics.

Thorbecke Brothers (suicidedoors.com) Superpivot 3 link with Custom bolt on axle brackets and sorta KP/Cando style lift bars made Thorbecke style with 2" x 2" x .025 wall tubing under Airlift 2B7s. Slam RS72s in front on unmodified stock arms and unmodified Suicidedoors cups. Powdercoated Belltech 2" spindles help it lay Y-pipe on the ground and tires on the wheel wells.
The front has been done since Easter. Back was done over Memorial day weekend ... 4 hours on Saturday, 8 hours on Sunday, and about 11 hours on Monday.

(click for bigger picture)

Air management is currently 5 gallons of air utilizing a Viair 450C and 380C on two different pressure differentials. I have the power to the relays wired to on/off switches so I can cut each compressor on or off as I please to keep them cool. (wiring diagram below). 1/2" Parker valves, 1/2" Parker Parflex airline, Parker PTC fittings and adapters (all of which are friggin awesome! ... first time bagger and not one leak from the Parker stuff.). The AVS ARC rocker 7 switch makes it much easier to adjust the truck height than the cinder block 10 switch boxes.

Yes, I know it needs some body work. But now, with the overheating and really rough idle, body work is the least of my problems.

I showed Jason the axle brackets a while back and he said they were too busy working on the control arms, but that they were hoping to offer the exact same thing soon. Once they come out, the 5 link will be offered completely bolt on except for the notch and upper shock bar and mounts.

That doesn't get very much lift... I like the look of an ss with the newer zq8's. Whats up with the tag? That shit is like facing the ground.

Yeah, but it's within the new forum specs. I checked and double checked.

The rough idle started on my way back from Birmingham and the truck overheated twice. It started a nasty clicking noise so I pulled over to let it cool. Started it back up and the clicking went away but the idle was really rough.

As for the license plate, yeah, my bracket is all screwed up. I've got more important issues right now, though.

Thanks for the compliments. Surprising everyone this past weekend was well worth all the work that went into it.

They are still in the works. I thought I would reuse the stock locations on the crossmember and them mount them to the lift bars on bottom. I just haven't gotten to it. And, surprisingly, the ride in the rear is not bad without them. The front gives me that boat ride, but not the back. I definitely am putting them back on up front, but I may give it a couple weeks with front only to see how it rides. Regardless, everyone who has ridden in it agrees that it rides a hell of a lot better than before. I love it.

Trust me bro, you will want rear shocks. After two years without them, i have lower back and neck issues now from the ever so slight unabsorbed bumps in the road.

Re: Well, I've made you wait long enough ... 98SS Bagged

The comp is doing good so far.
Thanks a ton guys. Yeah, Jon, seeing ya'lls faces was well worth all the work. And I know I said all that, but after it being through as much as it has, I figured, what the hell.

Yeah, Kris I probably will go with something bigger, but I'll have to make a new cage to give the larger bags some space. The roll plates for the 2B7s have little to no clearance between them and the tank cage, but they don't hit or come close to hitting unless I'm at full lift. Also, the 2B7s lift it high enough to ram the driveshaft into the tranny to where I can't drive at full lift, so they're plenty for now, until I get the shaft shortened a little.

Thanks for all the compliments. Lilsly, yours has been on my desktop wallpaper a handful of times. Thanks for the props and mad props to ya.

I see that they have internal bump stops. Do the 2B7s? I've been laying the truck out and squishing these 2B7s and wasn't sure if it would hurt. I'll be making some type of solid stop anyway, but can't seem to find out if these 2B7s have internal ones.

Yeah. Definitely happy.

Let me know what you're getting into this weekend. Sorry, I forgot to give ya the number. Now you have it, though. We're gonna try to yank the bed off again this weekend to gusset the frame above the bags. I didn't think to do it because at that point we were just ready to finish bolting it all on and get it on the ground. Now the passenger side frame rail is starting to bend up just a little. Not good, but we'll fix it, easy.

Anyone know anything about my last post about the 2B7s having bump stops?

Re: Well, I've made you wait long enough ... 98SS Bagged

Glad you found your way Heath.

As for the bracket design, I have no problem sharing. I showed them to Jason back in early January (saved the PM) and offered to assist SD in developing them, but he said they were too busy working on the control arms to work on these brackets. (Are the control arms even available yet? I recall they said they would be in Jan.)

But anyway, once they do get the axle brackets going, they can make them way easier than the average Joe. A good jig will help drastically when doing any project.

Here's some of the CAD drawings. I'll post exact dimensions later.

Re: Well, I've made you wait long enough ... 98SS Bagged

These parts are some of what makes up the bolt on axle brackets and frame mount brackets.

Refer back to the CAD drawing above. That is drawn as if you were going to trim the rear portion of the frame rails, box and gusset them, and then sandwich them with the rear frame mount brackets. You want to create an upper case "H" shape with each pair of the frame mount brackets as shown in the pics. Or you can trim off the inner side to create a lower case "h" shape and you won't have to trim the frame rails.
The rear most edge of the frame mount brackets are 2.0" from the rear edge of the framerails. Lift bars are 29" center to center and the shackles are 5" center to center. The 5" shackles lay 25.5" - 26.0" diameter tires. Add 1/2" to the shackles for every extra inch of tire diameter that you plan on running.

you think it would be possible to untuck 26.5" tall tires with a 3.5" bodydrop with your setup? i got 2 pieces of 2x2x.25 laying here and your pics got me thinkin about trying it.

Re: Well, I've made you wait long enough ... 98SS Bagged

I'll have to measure. I know my tires are right at 26" and I untuck the rears about an inch or two. But I'm also running 2B7s, so I'm not getting the lift I could. It's enough for now, though and I'll buy some more bags later. Right now I'm concerned about body and engine work.

But I'll layout the dimensions for you when I can get time. I'm in Mexico right now so measuring my own truck isn't possible.

Re: Well, I've made you wait long enough ... 98SS Bagged

No my license plate bracket used to be on that side and it had enough flex to it going down the road to where it would rub the roll pan. That's part of the reason it's bent so far back like someone mentioned before ... so that it won't wiggle and hit the pan. I have some ideas for making it stiffer. Just haven't worked on it yet.

Try gasoline, then clean the gas quickly with soap and water. Either that or Fast Orange (or equivalent) hand cleaner. That shit takes everything off.

And you got yourself a bolt on axle bracket. Just check the lateral spacing of the tabs that mount the forward link bars before welding them.

Look at that rear portion of the 3/8" plate under the 3.0 dimension. I'm not sure how far the SD bracket goes back but I'm sure it's not as much as mine. This extra plate gives more surface to weld the pivot ball housing tabs to the underside. If you don't have very much weld, they could be weak and crack prematurely. I mounted the center of the pivot ball housing almost right under the back edge of the plate to get all the weld I could. Then, the back edge of the plate was welded to the top of the pivot ball housing as indicated above for more strength.

Sweet looking CAD dwg's. Did you do these your self?
here's a link to my carb I did when I was rebuilding my 350 to stab in my dime.

Yeah, I did those. They're pretty outdated and poor compared to my recent work. Especially now that I'm using Catia V5.

That carb looks pretty nice. What program is that?

Also, this is a pretty old thread, but for the very first post, that should say 2" x 2" x .25" wall square tubing. Not .025" wall.

And check my New Project Thread in my sig for latest updates and changes to what is posted in this thread.
