stinger sr80?

ok i have an sr80 relay i have it running just one AZ compressor, and i am going to be getting another one here soon and my question is will just one sr80 relay run 2 AZ's or do i need to order another just to be safe, and if i can run 2 az's on one relay what fuse do i need to upgrade to, i have a 40 amp on one compressor right now?

Re: stinger sr80?

The way I am planning on wiring my 2 AZ's is to run the 8 gauge wire off them into a fused distribution block from stinger with two 40 amp fuses and then run the 4gauge wire out of the distribution block to a stinger SR 200 amp relay just to be safe. I'm not sure if a Sr80 would work cause I hear the AZ's can peak over 40 amp sometimes.

Re: stinger sr80?

You can run 2 compressors on one SR80 but I think it looks more clean if you have one for each pump.

Re: stinger sr80?

thats what i was thinking, and if i run 2 relays it's a less likely chance of anything going wrong

looks more clean? how!? just wire them both up to the relay and your done! No need to waste another 20 bucks on another relay...

Heres a very simple diagram for you:

Use one large terminal on the SR80 for power (this will be the wire coming from the battery)
Use the other large terminal on the SR80 to connect the power wire from your compressor

Use one small terminal on the SR80 to GROUND
Use the other small terminal on the SR80 to connect to your pressure switch.

Very easy, and it doesnt matter which one you use (for example, you can use eithero ne of the large terminals for power from battery, and either one of the small terminals for ground, no certain order they must be used in)

thank you.

One other thing you want to remember, is to fuse the power wire from the battery!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!! If I had not fused mine, I would have prolly comeo ut to burnt up truck man!!! Make sure you get a fuse in there.

The amperage size of the fuse will vary with different compressors.

Re: stinger sr80?

would it be alright to use one strand of 4 gauge from the battery with an 80amp fuse to power 2 viair480's, with a stinger80 relay?

Or if I used 2 40 amp relays, could I split the 4gauge and run it to both relays, could this work too?

Just trying to save from running more wire than I need to.

Re: stinger sr80?

do not use an 80 amp fuse for 2 viair 480's. those things together will draw a max of like 45 amps. use a 60 amp fuse.

and you'll use much less wire running 1 stinger solenoid rather than 2 relays. they are twice the grounds, twice the inputs from pressure switch, and splitting off the power also.

just run 1 solenoid, then run 2 8 gauge power wires coming off it going to the compressors.

Re: stinger sr80?

ok thats some real good info, thanks. So I can just go to an audio or parts place and tell them what I need to splice the power wires and such?

the 50amp double fuse thing? Is there a particular name for that...
also if I can't find a stinger relay locally, will any 80amp relay do?

thanks ! that diagram is better than most

Re: stinger sr80?

the double fuse, is a fused distribution block. suicidedoors sales the 80amp relays if you cant find one locally. but im sure any 80amp relay will work if you can find one.

Re: stinger sr80?

Yes it's an old thread but...

I have used 80 amp relays that are really '85 Ford F150 starter relays. Thus far I have smoked 2 of them. Turn on my switch and the relay clicks but doesn't send power to the comps. I bought a stinger from SD, and need to install it today. Hopefully this will solve my problems with switching out the crap Ford parts. I know, I know, I don't wanna hear it.
