**Project** Relocate to under Bed

Some fo you guys may remember my old thread when I got the truck all done. Well, since then I have changed my compressors out twice, and now got new tanks. Needless to say, I was tired of putting holes in the bed, so I decided to relocate it all under the bed.
Kind of sux because I just got the truck driveable a month or two ago (after being tore apart for 7 months) and now its under the knife again.

OLD SETUP: (1) 8 gallon tank , (1) DC7000 compressor , 1/2" GC valves for rear/1/2" SMC for front

NEW SETUP: (2) Stainless 5 gallon tanks, (2) Chrome viair 480's, 3/8" SMC for rear/1/2" SMC for front

Should be done very soon. Got most of the metal all cut and now most welded in the rear. I still have to get the "L" brackets welded onto the frome in the front to mount front valves on frame underneath the doors.

Heres some progress pics. All raw steel right now and not cleaned up at all. Tanks and compressors are just test fitten, nothing mounted permanantly yet.

Re: **Project** Relocate to under Bed

I like the little tray for the compressors, pretty cool. YOu might have been able to jam a third tank in there though. My buddy and I got 2 eights in there after some fabbing.

yeah, I could have easily gotten the third tank in, but I only wanted 10 gallons total. I think this will be fine. If I had another 5 gallons under there, then the fill time would prolly take forever......lol

Anyways, nothin done today, but hopefully if I get off of work early enough tomorrow, I can get the rear finished, and get my brackets welded up for the front valves to bolt to and get some plumbing ran here........getting close to being on the road again.

Re: **Project** Relocate to under Bed

Not trying to whore your thread but just throwing out a word of caution for ya. I have 1 5 gallon in a similar fashion as yours. But you have a 2nd one further back closer to the rear bumper. According to my calculations, I'll only have about 2 inches or so between the tank and the ground when pancaked. If you run front up-ass down, you are probably going to drag the hell out of that rear tank.

Just a thought.

Re: **Project** Relocate to under Bed

i've got a 5 gallon under the bed and i just shortened the backets, word of advice...weld the nut or bolt in before you put the backet back on. it's a bitch to tighten if you don't .

Re: **Project** Relocate to under Bed

I cut the legs off my standard 5 gallon tanks and welded them right to the cross bar.

Re: **Project** Relocate to under Bed

all right guys, after several weeks, I got her done now. I dont have the bed done yet, but heres some pics of the truck done.

Remember, I relocated everything to under the bed versus it was all in the bed before and I changed compressors, tanks, and rear valves.

I have the front valves mounted on the frame under the doors, I have the EAI chrome 7-switch box, and no longer the custome made switch panel in the console I had before.

Let me know what you think, plenty of pics comin.

Re: **Project** Relocate to under Bed

I still have to weld all the holes shut in the bed that I originally made when I mounted the tank, and compressors, and SR80 in the bed. I then have to trim a little off the mounting brackets (where the bed bolts to frame) to comphensate for where some of the brackets are in the rear.

I am also gonna weld in some wheel tubs if all goes well.......im just so damn anxious to drive it....

by the way, the EAI switchbox works AWESOME!!!

Re: **Project** Relocate to under Bed

by the way, I did shorten the brackets on the tanks about 1 3/8" and it clears just fine. Had I not done this, I would have dragged the tank for sure.

Re: **Project** Relocate to under Bed

well, drove it a little today (just zip-tied the taillights to the bumper so I didnt get into an accident or pulled over) and everything works great.

I also leak-tested the system and found 3 very small leaks, and oddly enough, they are all coming out of the push-n-lock fittings from suicidedoors and not any of the brass fittings (the threadlocker 545 is good shit!!) so I may have cut the lines crooked or something, I will mess with it later, it didnt even drop quite 5 PSI overnight, so they are very minor.

yeah, I noticed that too. I am pretty sure they are, but I am gonna try just taking them out and pushing them in again. If not, I will cut the line again and make sure its straight as fock.

nope, I shortened the brackets almost 2" so they dont really even come close to dragging now. Had I not done this, they definetly would have dragged (maybe not the one towards the front, but the one right by rear bumper would have for sure)

I was wondering about that. I have a 5gal 8 port under the bed and had to chop the tank mounts down and even had to space it up above the bed rail. Draggin drain plug isn't good.

Set up looks real nice and clean. I'm sure the compressors aren't as loud since they are under.
