[Project] Homemade 5 link setup
Ok so heres the next truck in the shop, a 99 S10 extended cab. Im doing a forward 4 link with the stock tank, but this will have rear facing lift bars and super pivot joints. Im setting the rear to lay on 20s because thats what hes gettin in the future..
Also check out his paint, it has custom blue pearl flames..we got tanks painted to match. |

Re: [Project] Steves Bagged '99
are you makin the rear lift bars from scratch?...if so could you make that description in depth and even a seperate how-to if possible?....i would like to do my own 4-link and also add my own leverage bars as well, and not really positive on how its done
BTW...paint is sick |

ya from scratch..theyre not too hard to make, just set your axle into place, weld in your back mounts, then make the bars fit that length ya know..

Re: [Project] Steves Bagged '98
Built a new gas tank crossmember..I angled it back to allow me to run longer equal length bars since this truck is going to get a lot of lift.

Re: [Project] Steves Bagged '98
Havnt updated in awhile but I got all the bars made, back end is almost finished, I just need to reinforce everything, box in the frame in spots ya know..
I dont have any pics of the 4 link, its out at paint getting matched the same blue as the flame. Heres a shot of the lift bars tho..I built them out of 1.5" x 1/2" box tubing so I think theyll be strong enough haha. The tabs I made out of 1/4" plate. I think Im going to wrap the top and bottom of them with 1/4" for more strength, dunno yet. The dog bone is a urethane bushing on one side and a super pivot joint on the other. |

Re: [Project] Steves Bagged '98
increased the upper bars length by 6", making both uppers and lowers close to the same length and also will keep the axle more centered throughout the motion.

i have a question about the rear structural x-member that you added.... why didnt you use a piece thats too short, add another small piece to it and weld it all together crooked?

Re: [Project] Homemade 5 link setup
Ok so a lot of local people said I couldnt get this truck bagged in 13 days, but if you were at Carlisle this weekend then you might have seen it there, because it was done, tuckin hard, and dragging the gfx right off. He picked up a set of 20s for it but I dont have any pics of that yet. Heres some build pics tho, I would have posted them eariler but again we were at the show..
Heres the manifold setup I built. The two tanks feed the top of the crosses which then distribute air out to the rear valves (mounted on the sides) and the front valves (mounted under the cab). I drilled and tapped the face of the one cross to hide the 175 pressure switch there. The second pic is all wired and mostly plumbed. ![]() ![]() Heres a couple pics of the setup finished. Everything you see was built by me, the shocks I did a little different to get the stroke needed and to break away from the norm. The bars are painted the same color as the flames on the truck. ![]() ![]() Heres a couple finished pics..Dont ask me about the bedliner, Steve 'needed' to keep it so he went at it cutting it all to hell. I tried to get him to get it out but to no avail. The tanks are painted opposite of the truck with the same tribal flames. ![]() ![]() Lemme know if ya have any questions/comments..No layed out or side pics yet. |

Re: [Project] Homemade 5 link setup
thanks, its setup up for 9.5" of lift, but it doesnt lay all the way out yet (carrier bearing x-mem and tranny x-mem waitin to go in) so right now I thinks its around 7-8".

Re: [Project] Homemade 5 link setup
Anytime ya want Jon..ok maybe not anytime, but whenever hah
Ya the cross is drilled with a letter 'R' bit and tapped for 1/8" NPT. Its the same thing I do for Tees when I run gauges and stuff.. Not really that hard, just make sure its true and square because you dont have much room for error. Ya it hides things nicely and makes it convienant. |

Re: [Project] Homemade 5 link setup
on your gas tank xmember, what size tubing is that made of? is there any bracing or just the tubing cut and angled to the right spot? I want to make one to raise the tank, and make longer top bars for the KP kit

Re: [Project] Homemade 5 link setup
Its 1x2x3/16 tubing. Its cut and welded then the ends have bracing, you can see one on the pass side next to the muffler..the frame is boxed with 3/16" plate steel then a brace of 1x2 comes up to support it. Same on the drivers side but shorter.

Re: [Project] Homemade 5 link setup
nigga plz this shit is supa clean! lol..also note how I welded the brackets to the frame, so the whole assembly comes up from underneath and bolts right on. I also have brackets on the side there that are cut in half to allow it to come from underneath and to help support the weight more..

Re: [Project] Homemade 5 link setup
well i sent you a pm but i think it would be better to ask you in here anyways...that way if anyone else has similar questions
how long are the lowers?...where did you mount them? how long are those dogbones for the rear lift bars? and this may be a stupid question but...which joints need the super pivot bushings, all of them or just the 4 link?...do the dogbones need the super pivot joints? |
