Got a new truck to play with as soon as that first gen was out..a Blazer X with 13k on the clock. This truck is getting a AirRide Coolride setup up front and somethin in the back that I havent decided on yet, most likely F9000s over or behind the axle...6 gal reserve, 3/8" line and 3/8" SMCs; fbss..
Of course it gets parked int he back corner of the shop where theres no light..All the balasts blew up back there and I have absolutely no time to replace the fixtures right now...multiple drop lights will have to do! Last edited by AVTekk : 06-09-2003 at 03:51 AM. |

Heres the rollers for this beast...waaaay too big for this truck IMO, more for a fullsize. 275/45-20 tires
![]() Drew (the owner) tells me he has 35 series tires to put on this thing, and I sure hope he gets em on quick.. |

Dave, I know that it will turn out nice, despite the choice of rims/tires....lol. Anyways, I will be watching this post like a hawk, as I am sure all of the other x blaze owners will be. I am xtremely interested in how the ART cool ride kit works and on what you decide for the rear set up. Are you going to have to do alot of cutting and relocating to get it to lay plastic like you did on the s10 xtreme? Also, IMO, when your removing stuff, remove that thing on the top of the back window...lol

haha ya..altho you may be disappointed because this truck is here from PA just for bags..not to lay out. Drew isnt ready to cut into the trucks body just yet.
as for the blazer on 22s, that was TJs ride and he has since changed his mind and is putting all his materials into a 86 longbed that may be bodydropped 4" in the near future... |

So what setup are you going to be doing on the rear? Anyways I read your topic on how to remove a spring and had a few questions. My pack has 4 leafs its on a 4-door 2nd gen blazer. I will probably be going with the air over leaf setup for the time being. I wanted to leave 2 leafs in instead of just having one. Which two do I take out? My pack is like the one you did your how-to on except it has a short almost straight leaf on the bottom. I tried to draw it below. Which ones do I take out to get the most drop? |

As for the Blazer...I got the front end done today and Ill be starting ont he rear tomorrow. I took pics of everything but of course I left the cam at the shop so Ill have pics up tomorrow.
In the rear I have decided to fabricate a bolt-in bridge setup to act as the upper mounting points for the bags and the lower mounts will be in front of the axle on AirRide mounts..more to come.. |

Just some normal install pics comin..
I always see people asking about cutting off the bumpstops of S10s but theres not too many pics of a 2nd gen Blazer bumpstop cutoff, so here we go. These are just as easy as, if not easier than, the pickup bumpstops. What ya want to do is cut thru the welds on the outside face of the rail; you can see theres a weld on each vertical side and then a small section on top near the rear. Once thats thru, just score the weld on the underside of the frame to weaken it..I did these with a cut-off wheel. |

Now ya want to take a 3lb sledge and smack the edge of the bumbstop to make sure the welds that you cut break off. Now jam a big ass prybar in there and push down..the bracket will bend right off the frame. Finish the job with the 3lb sledge and itll looks like this. This will later be ground down and painted..

Now for the bag stuff...Heres an overview of a complete kit courtesy of Matt at Guage..In the pic we have, starting from top left..
2 water traps AirRide shock relocation kit 2 Viair 450 compressors 1 big stupid pressure switch that pisses me off cuz its big and stupid 2 F9000 Firestone sleeve bags 2 2500 Firestone double convoluted bags AirRide brackets for frame mounted bags AirRide behind the axle brackets for sleeves AirRide Coolride front bag mounts 20 posistion switchbox 2 Firestone 3 gal tanks monoleafs made from stock packs air line various fittings, which sizes make absolutely no sense to me..im going to have to pick up more 8 3/8" SMCs 2 Viair double needle guages 1 Viair single needle guage for tank |

On to the front.... while disassembling the front suspension I came across these mangled end links..This truck only has 13k on it, and one bushing is about ready to fall apart and the other links bushing is missing completely. Both rods are ready to push thru the spacers..What caused this? I dunno..maybe Drew takes this thing to autocross meets and tears up the course, but the damage to these looks to be like that caused from severe side/side bag action..
In any case, they arnt going back on; neither is the sway bar. |

This Coolride kit didnt come painted so after I hit it with some black semigloss and assembled the bag, it looks something like this.

Here she is going in..You can make out half of the eyebrow in the frame right behind the rotor. For the line, I drilled a 3/4" hole next to the original shock hole and ran it thru there. Note that I sleeved a good 8" section of the line with rubber fuel hose; this will help prevent the line from getting damaged.

This is it all buttoned back together. You can see the rubber fuel line extends well past the hole in the frame, and thisll will stop it from getting damaged by the upper control arms when its layed out. You can also see a bit more of the eyebrow notch in the frame.

I was going to start on the rear, but I was waiting on some steel so I started messing with the delivery setup. Drew wants everything under the truck..everything..and its become quite a HUGE pain in the ass. I have to modify just about everything to get it to fit underneath, and its really taking up a lot of time. bitch bitch bitch, moan moan moan...
Heres the tanks, after I mad to modify the brackets. The one in front with the shortened mounts is for the pass side frame rail, the other is for the drivers side. Also, to save myself the headache of fighting with open ended wrenches later, I welded bolts to the mounts. |

Another thing I want to mention is that most of the Blazer frame is boxed, so that means if i want to mount something on the rails I have to drill thru both sides, which means twice the work...Maybe next time Ill just weld em there :P

Time for more dark pics! yeaaa
Here are the valves set up and ready for install..notice that I drilled and tapped the 3-way Ts for 1/8" NPT to run the guages..this is the easiest way to do it IMO if you dont have a 4-way cross..otherwise youd need another T in the system and that T will add 3 more points at which the system could leak, while this only adds 1. The less fittings the better.. |

Other tank on passenger side with compressor mounted right in front of it. Both at 3 gal Firestons and the compressors have remote filters, one is in the engine bay and the other is in that last pic, inside the frame and behind the tank.
The 3-way T and 1/8" line there is for the tank pressure guage in the truck. |

Heres the custom exhaust! The stock unit was at least 3 times the size of this..it was rediculous and it wouldnt fit no matter what I did..sooo..this is a muffler off a V8 s10, no name on it, but it sounds pretty good, a lil bit louder than stock but not by much. I cut the flange off the stock muffler and welded it on there so I could bolt it to the cat, and I made that downpipe and hanger and welded them on there..it came out really good and it looks dope from the side..Best thing is that its at least 10" away from anything rubber..

Shots of the rear setup..passenger side..the e-brake cable was routed differently to go around the bags, works out good. You can see the axhaust tip on the left side and how far it is away from everything..

Drivers side..e-brake used to cut in front of the axle right where the bag sits now, but it routes pretty easily on top of the axle, behind the bag.

Unfortunetly I forgot to take pics inside the truck..I put the 10 switch box in the center console..with a little cutting it fits quite nicely. The guages are in the glove box.
Total time for install: 1 week. Check the dates :P |
