Project: 02 Xtreme - Bagged on 20s
This next truck Im doing is going to be documented here to keep you guys updated in the goings-on of bagging. This is James' 2002 Xtreme ext cab, 8200 miles on the clock, ready for the knife (or sawzall really :P). Its getting the full AirRide Roadgrator rear kit, Coolride front kit, AirRide lower control arms with bolt-on shocks, and its going to lay plastic on 20s. So you can expect to see the full install, including the relocation of many things under the hood, and maybe some custom AV-made pieces thrown in for good measure...

I work out of my fathers shop with access to lifts, so the truck won't be getting worked on outside the whole time. Doing the rear is easy and keeping it outside for the time being will free up needed space inside. I know people with an eye for old cars will spot the Volvo on the side and ask for more pics and what else is on the lot, so the next few are a couple relics..
Old school little Volvo coupe thing hehe, I dont even remember what year it is..but it has this dope paint; something like a charcoal metallic flake, but most of it is ruined from the sun and age.. |

OMG Avtekk is doin a roadgrater? I'm kinda surprised. Anyway, how do you guys know its a '57 and not a 56 (the only thing i see is that the rear ¼ panels are curved like the 56/57's)

The 57 is not a nomad as it has 4 doors! It is a wagon.Nomads had 2 doors and a different roof..

He might be surprised because I usually like to fabricate a system in the rear, weld a bridge in or something..But Bob it is not my truck! Also James has a steep driveway and he needs the extra lift that the F9000s provide. Theres no downfall to using this kit, its pretty dope..More pics tonight! Sorry Ive been busy.. :P

ATTN GM: You suck! I wanted to take pics of this before, but the battery on the camera was dead..First thing I noticed was that the 02 gas tank hade twice as many hoses and crap on it. I bagged a 01 so I guess they changed it for this year..Not a problem, but most of the hoses are plstic crap so its going to be a bit more of a challenge to move the canister.
Big problem here was that all these extra lines were LEAKING, the result of which you can see in the middle here; the gas melted all the plastic down. The frame rails also has fuel residue on em so the leak was pretty extensive..BTW this truck only has 8200 miles on it |

Heres one of the 2 hoses that I found leaking. The other was part of that plstic crap line going back and forth between the tank..

Dave, What's up with his gas filler in that pic a lil ways up. Does he have a shaved filler and thats what he did to relocate it to the bed?

Ok, more work got done today...After going through all the boxes, it turned out I was another victim of a direction-less kit! However one quick call to Tony at AirRide and he had them faxed to me in 10 minutes. The directions said to sawzall the gas tank crossmember off, but I didnt agree with that, so I went ahead and knocked all the rivits out of the frame with an air hammer. Let it be known that an air hammer is an invaluable tool! Heres a shot of the carnage..

The directions didnt mention taking out the stock shock towers, and it didnt seem like they would get in the way, but while I had the sawzall in my hand I figured I might as well go ahead and 'clean' the frame up a lil bit more.. :P

Ah...both sides down, crossmembers bolted down, frame cut out. I went and stood on the end of the frame after this and it was even sturdier than the stock rails!

I threw the bars on there and attempted to check the axle to frame clearance but the jack maxed out before it could bottom out..oh well, it looks good tho. I would have stuck a block of wood under it but I was on my way out..

Another shot from the other side. Before I left I went ahead and bolted the shocks and bags on. I would have taken a pic but it was getting too dark.. O_o

I've never bothered to pay attention to that kit because I already had a rear set up in the works. But I like it, looks sweet.
Tony: do you have to use tapered sleeves in the rear? And what comes with the kit? |
