owners of the kp 6link

so ive had the kp 6 link for a couple years now, i just recently took my xtreme kit off and made my truck lay frame. i had to get 2 inch lowering blocks for my kit because my shocks were bottoming out and my bags wouldnt compress enough for the frame to lay. now with the blocks on, my lower shock and link mounts are ****in close ass hell to the gorund and ive already hit shit in the road and i have to be very carefull pulling in my driveway.
so what are you guys runnin for setups? im thinking of switching to a 4 link with bag over axle.

Re: owners of the kp 6link

Sounds about right. I know theres a guy or 2 on here that runs 22's with the 2 inch block so i don't think it's worthwhile to change the whole setup. I have always heard the shock tabs to be a problem especially the upper (stock) ones.

Why is fixing the tabs and getting correct shocks for it out of the question. I don't think it's the bag thats holding you up but the shock bottoming out that is.

Re: owners of the kp 6link

you defenitely don't have the 20" dogbones if you're having to run blocks with 225/45/18.

I run 2" blocks with my cando 6 link and lay on 255/30/22. I would measure your dogbones that are on there now, then call KP on monday and see if they have longer ones

Re: owners of the kp 6link

hmm i've never had any of those problems and i run 18" on a 245/40. The only thing i'm having trouble with is my front leaf perches need to be brought back so they raise up a lil bit.

Re: owners of the kp 6link

me and a buddy just took his KP 6 link off his std cab and put a SD 3 link on it...had to modufy some things on the truck to get it to work but it rode and laid better than it did in his opinion even before the 6 link!...SD makes some great shit, just gotta be willing to finagle some things to get it the way you want

Re: owners of the kp 6link

you could just custom mount shocks. weld a shock bar across the notch and then put tabs on the axle. i'm not familiar with the kit, but i'm sure you could do something like that.

Re: owners of the kp 6link

i already told you man, get the longer dogbones. you need them with that size tire, otherwise with blocks and short bones your shocks/link ends will defenitely be super close to the ground.

mine isn't the case because with long bones and blocks there's plenty of room under everything with a 29" tire

if you look at it next to the tire it gives you an idea of how close they are to the ground.

trim the excess on the u bolts . that doesn't have anything to do with it, but you should still do it.

Re: owners of the kp 6link

you shouldnt have to run a 2 inch block with 18's thats for sure...my truck almost laid with the 18inch dogbones with 20's before i got the new dogbones....and it looks like you have changed the shocks from the ones that come with the kit ...are they the same size open and compressed?

Re: owners of the kp 6link

that must be a new gen 6 link because the one we took off my buddy's truck didn't have round rear lower bars...they were square and had no dogbones...i've got pics somewhere but that doesn't look like a KP to me or like i said, could be their new version

unfortunately i got rid of the shocks that came with the kit but im pretty sure they were the same size. but the shock thing isnt really the thing that holds me up. the bags wouldnt compress enough to lay. im going to relocate the shock for now just so its that much less hangin out.

Re: owners of the kp 6link

Get new dogbones!! A friend of mine has a KP 6 Link laying flat frame on 18s and the orignal shocks that came with the kit, I don't know why you would be using blocks when dogbones will fix your problem.

KP even sells shocks for their set-ups, I beleive they cost about $30 a piece. No reason you should be using blocks or any other BS these kits are designed and engineered to work right

KP 6 Link FTW!! I'm picking mine up Saturday

cando 6 link FTW. cheaper, and you can get the lowers shortened for free from steve.

also, I use blocks with my kit and have no problem. the longer dogbones for 20's and the 2" blocks let me lay on 255/30/22

I'm getting my 6 Link for $600 with bags/shocks truck was totaled so its being parted it out now, I need to buy the raised gas tank member, 20" dogbones and not sure if I want the shorter bars

You can hit fat sides with the orignal bars compared to the shorter ones, compared a friends who have the shorter ones and one who has the longer ones

I'll just drag through them and then fix it

Re: owners of the kp 6link

and no it doesn't warp the frame, for some trucks you just have to weld in a small gusset to support the frame where the bag mounts to. I didn't on my truck because the stock shock mounts work as gussets

also, if you like longer bars, just shorten them like 4" and slide the perches back just enough not to drag. The shorter bars that I have on mine are 10" shorter than the original bars

and before i had the blocks in i got crazy lift with the 6 link.

it's just a small piece of metal about 2X4" welded in the middle of the frame where the bag mount is. one of the simplest things you'll ever have to do on a bagged truck.
