Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
Q: I want to bag my truck what do i need?
A: Please read the stickies at the top of the BAGGIN IT section. Here is the link Baggin It Please read the stickies carefully before posting any questions. Q: About how much money do i need to get a decent bag setup? A: About $2,500 for a basic FBSS setup. Q: What do i use to cut out the spring pocket?... A: Use a SAWZALL and a grinding wheel. Q: How much space do i need around my bag in the spring pocket? A: Atleast a fingers width or more to clear the bag. Make sure to test fit the bag to check for clearence. Q: What size valves are good? A: 1/2in Valves are good for good speed. The front will drop fast but if you learn to control it, it will be ok. 3/8 valves are good. They are not quite as fast as 1/2in and are a bit easier to control and you will notice a difference in speed. Alot of people will run 1/2in fills and 3/8s dumps. But alot of people run the 1/2in and 1/2in. Its personal preference for speed. Q: What compressors are good? A: VIAIR compressors are good, they run from like $180-$200, and Engine driven compressors are good Q: What size line is good for bags? A: 1/2 in line is pretty much standard. 3/8 line is kind of small. Most people with bags that use them alot for daily use, use 1/2in line. It flows good and isnt too fast to the point of being uncontrolable. Then theres 5/8 line which is much faster. Lifting and dropping will be sped up a great deal with 5/8 line. But it is also harder to find fittings for 5/8 and 5/8 is difficult to work with. Q: What size ports do i need on the bags? A: Most bags run a single 1/2in port on them. Some have 3/8in ports. Q: Do i need dual port bags? A: Dual port bags are usually reccomended for hopping with alot of pressure. Drop speed is increased dramatically and for most people it is too fast for daily use. Most people are fine with a single 1/2in or 3/8 ports. Q: What size line is good for gauges? A: Most gauges run either 1/4in or 1/8in line. Check the gauge for what size line it runs. 1/4in is ok to work with but 1/8in line is better to use if you will be running gauges in pillar pods. Q: How many gauges do i need? A: You can use 1 dual needle gauge for just FB (front, back) or 2 dual needle gauges for FBSS( front, back, side, side) Some people run a third single needle gauge for the pressure in the tank. Q: What does it take to hop? A: An ext cab 4.3 S10 will hop the front a few inches at around 200PSI with 1/2in valves and 1/2in lines. Most compressors will only pump up to about 200psi safely. Engine drivens can pump hjgher pressures. If your interested in really hopping alot at high pressure, Nitrogen is the way to go. Last edited by Dragginbody : 12-29-2008 at 11:14 PM. |

Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
Q: Do i need drop spindles?
A: You SHOULD use them. If you dont, it will make the task of laying the truck flat much more difficult. It is better to spend the money and get the spindles than not to. They are highly reccomended. Q: What kind of front cups are good? A: Bolt in cups are reccomended for ease of installation and maitenance. Alot of people on here run the Suicide Doors bolt in cups. The free floating cups are not as good. They tend to slide around in the spring pocket which can cause wear and tear on the bag if it rubs on anything. Also, it can cause the bag to become wedged into the pocket in a strange way which will cause the truck to not lift properly. And weld in cups tend to make maintenance more difficult and if they are not welded in properly the first time, they can cause more wear and tear on the bag than needed and posisbly result in failure. Q: Can i lay on stock tires? A: No you will need to get lower profile tires or take out your wheel wells and have drop spindles. Q: Can i lay the Xtreme ground effects on the ground with stock tires? A: No you need lower profile tires or take out the wheel wells and have drop spindles. Q: Do i need a new carrier bearing crossmember? A: If you have a 98 or newer S10 you do, but if you have a 98 or below. No. Q: Do i need a new gas tank crossmember to lay? A: If your doing a fuel cell no. Otherwise YES, it raises the gas tank above the frame rails so you dont drag it. Otherwise you will drag your gas tank and eventually drag a hole in it. Also, it has a chance of exploding if it gets a hole dragged in it. |

Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
Q: What size tank do i need ?
A: Tanks can range anywhere from 3 gallons to 12 gallons. A very basic setup with 1 compressor could use one 5 gallon tank, but most people arent happy with that. Most people that use 2 regular compressors such as the Viair 450 have either 2 5gallon tanks or one 12 gallon tank. . For daily use and some play time 2 5 gallon tanks or one 12 gallon tank is reccomended if you have at least 2 compressors. Some people that have an engine driven compressor use one 5gallon tank or 1 7gallon. You can use a single If you have notrogen you can use one 5 gallon tank. Here is a link to the different types of tanks available, these arent the ONLY options, but its a good start Different Tank Options Q: How many ports do you need on a tank? A: Generally, a good amount of ports is 8. You can have anywhere from 2 ports up to 8 ports. For example, if a person is running ONE 5gallon 8 port tank and two compressors with a FBSS setup, then it would be setup like this. 1 port for each bag ( 4 ports taken up). 1 port for the pressure switch. One port for each of the compressors (2 ports taken up). And then 1 port for the drain at the bottom of the tank. Then that is all of the 8 ports taken up. Q: What kind of pressure switch do i need? A: There are two types of pressure switches. There is the preset switch such as Preset Switch or the adjustable type like this AdjustableSwitch Both switches are good, but many people like the adjustable switch so that they can control the amount of pressure that they are running. Q: How many compressors do i need? A: A good rule of thumb is 1 compressor for about every 5-6 gallons of air. For example, if you have 1 Viair 450 then you should have only one 5-6 gallon tank. If you want more air than that, then you need another compressor. If you have a 12 gallon tank, you should have two compressors. If you have an engine compressor you can have a tank anywhere from 3 gallons to a 12gallon tank. An engine driven is capable of filling more than a 12gallon tank with no problem. If you want to run nitrogen you only need one 5 gallon reserve tank. Q: Should i have a backup compressor if i run an engine driven or Nitrogen? A: Yes. If the engine ever fails, or you run out of nitrogen, you will be stranded. A backup compressor will fill your tank until you can get the engine driven fixed or the nitrogen refilled. Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
Q: Do i need shocks in the front?
A: For a better ride, shocks are reccomended. You can cruise lower with them because it smoothes out the ride. Without shocks, the ride is a little bumpier and wavey. With different bags, it will ride differently without them. Its basically personal preference. For a better ride use them Q: Should i use bolt in shock relocators for the front or weld in? A: You can use either. Its is best to have weld in, but if you can not weld and would like things to be easier, you can use bolt in. Be sure to use rounded head bolt so that if the tires rubs on the shock, it will not pop your tire. Here is the Air Ride Technologies bolt in shock relocators And here is the Weld On Suicide Doors shock relocators Q: Do i need shocks for the rear? A: Yes you NEED them, without them the back is very unstable and gives a horrible ride. Use shocks and you will be happy. Q: How many switches do i need for a setup? A: If you are running just a FB setup. You can use just two toggle switches, one for front Up/Down and one for rear Up/Down. If you want you can run a third toggle switch for Pancake which makes the whole truck go Up/Down. If you have FBSS you can use a 10 Switch Box Which has Front U/D, Back U/D, Front Right U/D, Front Left U/D, Rear Right U/D, Rear Left U/D, Left Side U/D, Right Side U/D, Pancake U/D, SeeSaw which is front up/back down and back up front down. Q: How many valves do i need? A: For just a FB (front/back) setup you only need 4 valves. 2 valves for the front. One for lifting and one for dumping. And 2 valves for the rear, one for lift, one for dump. If you want a FBSS (front back, side, side) setup then you need 8 valves. You need 2 valves per corner, one for lift, one for dump. Q: What is the difference between FB and FBSS? A: FB only allows you to lift both the front bags at once and both the rear bags at once. It does not offer as much control over your system as does a FBSS setup. Also, without a swaybar the FB setup does not ride very well and you get alot of body roll. With only FB if you have a leak or blow a bag in the front or rear, the whole front or rear would drop rather than just one corner. With the FBSS setup you have more control over how much pressure is in each corner and more control over the ride on each corner. Also, there is less body roll and you can get away without using a sway bar in the front. And if you blow a bag or have a leak in one corner, only that corner will drop. Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
For '98+ Extended cab trucks, I have done a how-to on installing the carrier bearing cross member from SuicideDoors.com. Its not very difficult, just time consuming, and having the right tools. This is a definate MUST HAVE if you have an extended cab truck because the stock carrier bearing cross member hangs below the frame about an inch or more.

Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
Q: do i need a custom y-pipe when i bag my truck??
A: yes it would be a good idea if you did.get it relocated. unless you want a smashed y-pipe. Q: should i use a bolt in notch or a weld in, or super notch or bridge?? A: bolt in notch will make life a little eaiser, weld in about the same unless u don't have a welder. and a bridge if you want it extra strong. if it's already been said sorry delete it then |

Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
Ok ill post all the annoying ones and you can answer them how you want....
Can i lay 18's with inner fenders? can i lay 20's with inner fenders? how low will it go with inner fenders and 20's.... tire sizes... yada yada where do i relocate everything after taking out the inner fenders? how do i keep my ac? And the final annoying question... what all do i need to do to lay my truck on 18's, or 20's, or 22's? Id like to make a comment while im at it... This forum is great for many people but the stupid repeated questions are rediculous. If you dont know how to do simple stuff like moving your charcoal canister when you bag it, i hope like hell you know what youre doing when you do the main things because i dont want to share the road with you. Dont ask if a monoleaf is ok because its clearly not and i dont care how long you had yours before it snapped. Not being a dick or anything but if you need to ask questions like that mabey you should pay someone who knows to do the work. Hope this FAQ turns out to be helpful and cleans up the forums. And id like to conclude with FABRICATORS DON'T INSTALL BOLT-ON'S! Peace |

Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
Q: Are 2 link ok?
A: No they throw your pinion angle way off when raising or lowering the vehicle. Q: What's the difference between 2600 and 2500 pound bags A: 2500 provide a more firm ride and also need more pressure to raise up. 2600's have a smoother ride and take less air to raise up. Also 2600's require more to be cut out of the spring pocket. Q: Do i need to raise my gas tank? A: Yes. If you dont want to drag a hole in it... or instead buy a fuel cell. Q: What degree does the pinion angle set at? A: No exact angle... but between 2 & 3 seems to be fine. |

With different bags, it will ride differently without them. Its basically personal preference. For a better ride use them. QUOTE] Yes you need shocks in the front without them it is like a boat in high tides and is just plain getto. Q. Can I attempt to bag my truck myself? A. Yes there are plenty of bolt on kits out there. The ones that require welding if you do not know how to or do not feel comftable welding take it somewhere that can. Install price may be a bit high for you at the time so just save. An install price will ALWAYS be lower than the law suit you will recive if you hurt or kill someone from a crash due to poor workmanship. Q can I run my 4-link backwards or the top bars backwards and the bottoms foward? A Yes you can, will it be correct and handle correctly ,NO. The only way to correctly mount 4-link bars are foward facing. Q Can I just install weld on 4-link bars anywere. A No, you need to mount the bars at close to the same plane and have the mounting points close to the same distances from the axle to maximize the advantages of the 4-link. Q. I'm running a triangulated 4-link can I weld the upper bar mounts to the pumkin? A NO the pumkin or carier is made from cast steel, It will weld but is very week. Cast has lots of tiny air bubles in it this makes it to week to be placing that much stress in a given point. A couple alternatives are mount it to the tubes, mount them on a diff bracket that bolts on with the cover or use tubing to make a bridge and mount them off of that. |

Re: Official Baggin Frequently Ask Questions FAQ'S Thread
maybe throw in there
Q. What can I do about the little triangle pieces on the tranny xmem that hang below the frame on my 98+? A. The frame in the location of these triangles is really thick. You can remove the triangles and recess some alan head bolts up in the frame after drilling the bottom hole on the frame out. Q. What do I do about the hump on the tranny xmem that hangs lower than the frame on my 98+? A. Most people cut the hump off above the scrubline and weld in a plate for strength. Devious customs makes a xmem to fit above the frame but its hella expensive. Or you could just drag the focker off:banghead: Q. How do I wire up a 10 switch...switch box. A. Refer to the tech section of bagginit.com Q. If I use the behind and under bag mounts from SuicideDoors with f9000s, how do I mount the top of the bag. A. You have to use a length(40 inches I believe) of steel tubing and bolt/weld it to the top of the frame makeing sure it is 4.5 inches from the bottom mount when layed out. Q. How do I set my pinion angle. A. Make sure the truck is level. Set the truck at your ride hieght( where you will drive it). Use a magnetic angle finder stuck on one of the horizontal ledges on the differential, and adjust the rod ends on the link bars untill your angle is right for your truck...refer to above for finding your trucks angle. Q. What bags ride best out back? A. Any sleeve bag will ride better than a double convoluted bag in a over the axle setup. If you are going to run a 5, or 6 link a bigger bag like a firestone 2b7 or an equivalent bag from a different company will ride best. I hope this helps. I had some of these questions a while back. Thanks to the forum I know the answers now. Last edited by PhatBoy : 05-08-2005 at 03:17 AM. |
