ya the welds arnt terrible, the technique needs to be cleaned up a LOT. but the notched notch?? and that wishbone crossmember looks to be notched as well, i can see open tubing inside there. also its waaaaay too tall and thin to support that wishbone, will probably fall over when you hit the gas.

who said every shave job looks like this? not everyones doors turn out like that. i shaved my truck doors and they didnt warp, and 1 out of 4 doors on my blazer warped

Panels warping are not always avoidable. Depending on where the door brace is can effect how the metal moves when you weld it.

Drilling holes and using a slide hammer is a perfectly acceptable way to pull out a warped door. A stud gun is better,since you do not have to weld up the holes, but it works and did for many years.

With the few holes that he had to drill, I would say the warpage wasn't even that bad. As stated, it is much better to pull the dent than just fill it in with filler!

Now if he ducktaped the back side of the holes and filled them with roofing tar, then it belongs on here.

If you take your time and move from panel to panel a shave job will turn out almost perfect. It's a matter of controling the heat. If you don't let the door cool long enough between welds then it's gonna warp cuz it's so thin. I have seen much worse out of supposed experienced guys who charge big $$$ for their work.

why would you weld all the way around on a flippin door handle shave? should of just put bondo on the lip and stuck the filler plate on. s10 doors are pretty hard to warp. im just calling out hacked. regardless if he pulled out the dent. no need to put that much heat into a door handle lol. take your time and move to the next door after a few tacks.

my doors had some warpage when i shaved them too. I guess my truck is hacked now. it was even pulled back out and fixed right but i guess that doesnt matter.

I sure hope you were joking about slapping in a filler plate with bondo, but knowing you, probably not.

You suggest just putting body filler (not panel bond would actually be an acceptable solution) on the lip and slapping it in place and you are calling that fully welded handle hacked?

lol i got to watch my friend shave his door the wrong way. Maybe a total of 6 tacks to hold the filler in place, then used the bondo with fiber glass in it and swiped it, sanded it and primed it and called it done. Needless to say everything he did cracked out. or you can start to see it through the bodywork

i have a few pics from thiis weekends winter cruize in fayetteville. saw a guy that had his compressor and tank sitting in the pass seat. and another with his valve blocks sitting on the gastank with nothing holding them down. alot of hacks show up at the winter cruize shows

I did go through it and found no other bracing for the wishbone crossmember. The rear frame lowering does not look good at all either.

wow you guys can really judge a book by its cover huh? i just love it when ppl go to a build thread and just look at the pics and dont bother reading shit, then wanna go and harrass them on shit thats just mocked up or isnt fully completed yet. you may laugh at our "hacked work" now, yet when its all said and done with, come up to us at shows and shake our hands for what we have built.


my notch is notched so we could have the notch as low as possible for floor clearence in the end, and the axle clears the notch as is, we just added the extra clearene incase its needed. the axle is a good 2-3inches higher than being laid out in that pic.


theres isnt a nut on the drive shaft simple becuz we were taking the drive shaft on and off to see where it needed to be to clear the crossmember.


and i garentee you that 3 link cross member is strong enough to with hold the power of 200,000 mile 4.3 with all of maybe 200 horse power.

as stated earlier, this is just a cruiser/show goer, not an all out performance vehicle.
