Layin With a Sway bar.

There's been a bunch of talk about laying with a sway bar with shortend factory endlinks. i've heard of it, but never actually seen it done. I've read about the balljoint endlinks, but i was hoping to go a cheaper route. I have a ZQ8 Swaybar, and a 245/25/20 tire. i was playing around with it the other day with a stock endlink and it ended up bending and not laying out. I also have ART Lowers and all the way aired out, the angle of tab on the arm is completely different than the one on the sway bar layed, so do i just cut the tab off the arm and re angle it or am i gonna run into more issures. i just can't see a stock endlink workin smoothly

Re: Layin With a Sway bar.

when i had art arms i had to use hiem joints on the bottom mounted in a u shaped bracket and bushings on top. only way i could get it to work with out bending the end links.

Re: Layin With a Sway bar.

245/25-20? New tire size?

You'll have to go with the balljoint endlinks no matter what simply because of the completely different arcs of travel of the suspension vs. the sway bar

technically it's an ARB, and it's there for a reason.

Re: Layin With a Sway bar.

keep the stock endlinks and with a zq8 swaybar i was able to flip it on my truck and lay without it binding or bending. flip your swaybar and see what happens.

Is driving that bad without the sway bar? I still have the front but no rear... I can definatly tell that the rear is not there.

Re: Layin With a Sway bar.

you know i took mine off after a long time of swearing by it. you can tell the difference when you make turns and on the freeway but just coasting down the street there is really no difference.

obviously with the swaybar on sides are very limited so it all ends up as personal preference as to what you want to do. mine is still off but once i'm done with everything i want to do with it i am thinking about throwing it back on. less sides for a little better handling. but i don't know yet, i'm waiting to weld my shocks on to see what that does for handling.

I am going to keep it, its not like its that much work. Why sacrafice it especially if hitting sides isnt your thing (I could care less about them).

Re: Layin With a Sway bar.

If you flip the sway bar you wont be able to lay out, it will bind. I use my swaybar with poly busings and shortened shafts. I can't remember but it was like 1/2 or a ful 1" i cust off, i also had to use grade 8 bolts. My stock bolts bent after awhile.

I love my swaybar helps the truck handle great. I had relocated my shocks when i first did my set up and I did not like the ride. Its all personal pref i guess..

i believe for the flipping trick to work you need the zq8 swaybar. stock endlink, nothing cut and i layed no problem. does make a difference for ride quality but i ended up ditching mine so i could play. i'll most likely put it back on.

Re: Layin With a Sway bar.

i shortened the stock endlinks on my blue truck by cutting the center tube in 1/2 and getting a shorter bolt.

worked great with stock arms and 225/35/20 tires

Those look pretty cool. But your spring pockets shouldnt be so square. Mine were like that and cracked.

Re: Layin With a Sway bar.

i used a set of these
then used some 3/8-24 threaded rod with new poly sway bar bushings.
with the sway bar the normal direction (not flipped).

Re: Layin With a Sway bar.

Trial 1
Flipped Swaybar, stock end links about 1/2-1in from laying

Swaybar hit the frame

Trail 2
Shortend endlinks about 3/4in

It lays, i'm just concerned about the angle of the endlink, how long before that snaps?
and the there's no bushing on the bottom one becasue menards didn't have long enough
bolts. i have to cut them off every time i take the endlinks off. let me know what you think
but im leaning the the heim joint idea.
