drug through gas tank

i just drug a hole in my gas tank, didnt notice it for about 30 minutes until i pulled it into the shop. I ran inside and grabbed a bar of soap and that stopped the leak. Question is how long with that hold up? i would put some jb weld on it to help seal it better but i think i threw it out. what else could i use to seal it up?

been there done that. i couldnt stop my leak with anything .even tried that tank seal stuff you squish together and stick in the hole. prolly gonna have to do like me and replace the tank.(junkyard)

the gas tank stuff works if there is no gas in the tank and you "worked it" enough. its like $2 a stick...drain the fuel and use that stuff.

go get a stick of gastank repair at advance, its like 2 dollars and its realy easy to use, it comes in a stick the size of a hot glue stick.

I dont know what kind of boat stores they have in hell, but I have used some stuff callled marinetex. It works great, I used it on two different motorcycle tanks.

well i got it to stop leaking, used a bar of soap and that stopped it, and i put some gasket maker my dad had laying around, not leaking anymore, im going to keep an eye on it

when i dragged through mine i pulled the tank, leaned the front up and jb welded, it's still holding. i also made a crossmember under the front of the tank to keep it from happening again. as others have said the fuel needs to be out or away from the hole. fuel will eventually eat through the gasket maker.

use that gas tank patch shit. Ive got some on my nova thats been their for like 8 years, and pretty much a 4 inch square spot was rusted out. Never had a problem with it. You dont need a daily, you need to keep you gastank off the asphault

make sure you keep something in your truck so that when it starts leaking again you will have something to stop it right away. cant let that stuff go to waste with how much its worth now.

i've always used that epoxy gas tank repair stuff and it's worked everytime. It works for metal tanks though, the plastic ones don't seem to patch too well.

my blue truck had been patched 3 or 4 times and none of the patches leaked. but i drug quite a bit off the frame and had to raise the tank 2" to keep it off the ground.

yea i have a metal tank, ill pick some of that tank repair tmrw before work, its not leaking right now with just the soap and liquid gasket over it

I used Epoxy stick from wal-mart its made for Marine boat and metal repair its idientical to the putty u see on tv thats supose to pull anything stick to anythign or what ever i used it and had'nt had a problem with it. i put it over the gas tank kit from Napa all the kit came with was what appeared to be fiberglass fine cloth and jb weld.

the d bag I bought my mazda from tried everything to seal the hole he drug in it. Most of the stuff reacted with the gas and it leaked anyway. The tread on the tire closest to the tank was all goobered up from leaking gas. It blew a giant gas bubble the first day I had it and I decided enough was enough and put a new tank in it.
