Why was it in the garage for 7 months?!

Winter?

Thats insane, couldn't imagine not driving my truck for 7 days, let alone 7 months..

At first I thought they may be a little hard to get at too, but actually theyre not. I really didnt want a switchbox, I wanted to keep everything looking as "stock" as possible. I am not aiming for a show truck or anything, just a nice summer ride to drag a little.
I was aiming for the "stock" look on everything as much as I could. Thats why you will never see any street scene (or any other aftermarket) mirrors on it, no crazy paint job, no tweed or painted interior, etc.......

I am however gettin my 18's hopefully by the end of the week (ordered them last week) and then puttin my tonneau cover on it once its painted, then it should be done.

Thats how long the bag project took. I was only getting a few hours a week to work on it (and I have never bagged a truck before) so it was taking forever.....

not to mention I work 60 hours a week, have a 14 month old son to take care of, and then squeezing in my beer drinking time and house/yard maitenance........then I took about a 3 month break and didnt touch it at all.

And it was VERY HARD at first not driving my truck for 7 months, but I love my new 2003 Explorer too, so that made it easier.

I still have them (center caps though, not hub caps) but I didnt bother putting them on because the wheels should be here by the end of next of week, so the stockers are coming off soon anyways.

I actually used a piece of wood with black plastic covering on both sides. It was part of a Frigidaire (home appliances) display that was leftover from work.
I also made a template first though so I would know what to cut (trace around the ac/heater control panel for that). For that I used a really thin piece of stainless steel (i originally was going to use that to mount the guages to, but the black looked better in my truck) and then traced it onto the wood and cut it with a jigsaw.

Then I just bolted the guages onto them, drilled holes for mounting where the factory ac/heater controls bolted on, and used some 1/4" nuts for spacers to bring the guages out flush with the plastic trim around there and the radio.
Took some work, but I love the way it looks.

Thanks for all the comments guys........it makes this whole project all seem well worth the time (and it WAS ALOT OF TIME!!!) and effort.......there were alot of late nights spent out in the garage and time with my son I didnt get trying to finish this truck.

well, besides this thread, I made a "thank you" thread to suicidedoors.com for all of their help. I did post a link to this thread on that one.

I am very excited to have this done finally. After 7 months, you start to get a little restless and impatient.

LOL......you must have been very disappointed then, sorry bro.

Live my life and try to find time to do anything!!! I am very happy with the setup though, got my 3" front cups coming from suicidedoors (I understand that the 3" cups will give better lift in the front with my ARt Cool Ride lower control arms then the 2" cups I currently have), and some smaller sized checkvalves coming for the bags to eliminate the backfeed I am getting into the tank.

WHEELS WILL BE HERE FRIDAY!!!!!

I love the roadgrater kit!!! it rides so smooth and gets insane drop/lift. I got a good deal on it, Ill say that much, not sure if Jason wants me to tell everyone what I paid for it though.....

I am in Ottumwa Iowa. Southeastern Iowa. About 30 miles north of Missouri boarder.

Will have more pics tomorrow once I get the wheels on.......I CANT WAIT!!

yeah, I get pm's periodically from the guys in Iowa, but like I said before, I am working a little over 50 hours a week now (dropped from 60 a week since things have slowed way down) and its just hard to find time to do shit anymore. My trucks been done for a little over 5 days now, and I have only put about 30 miles on it since its been done.......

***** UPDATE *****

I got ONE wheel in the mail today!!!! Somehow they must have gotten split up in transit, so the other three are due to show up tomorrow.....I have my tires sitting in the tire shop waiting for me to bring my wheels over, so they will all be mounted and balanced and on the truck tomorrow.....will have new pics!!!
