Wanna lower and haul bike

Hey ya'll,
Been a while since I've been on here. Ok here it is. I've got a 2006 Yamaha R6 and a 1991 standard cab.

I measured from the top of the tire to the very bottom edge of my fender lip and it's 3" front-6" rear...i know i know...wtf...

My main question is. Can I lower this sucker and not worry about bottoming out when I throw my bike in the bed. It's wet weight is approx 400-500 lbs I can't really remember. Any help would be appreciated ya'll. Thanks!

Re: Wanna lower and haul bike

Ok, so moreover, I suppose my question would be. If I lowered my dime, would I need helper springs or would it still be able to hold the bike w/o looking totally leaned back?

Re: Wanna lower and haul bike

i'm dropped on 20's. i think it's about a 4/5. i bought the truck like that. top of the tire is even with the fender up front and a little higher in the back. i've hauled about 600lbs back there no problem. if anything it will ride better.

Re: Wanna lower and haul bike

After some THOROUGH forum scraping and reading, a 4/5 sounds like a good way to go. Seem's I'll have to cut out my bumpstops and their brackets, that's fine and easy. But I'm a TAD worried about the bike in the back, ya'll said it should be ok, but with the bike back there and a 5" rear drop you dont think it would be too much? What would be the best rear components to go with to try and retain my bed load capacity?

Re: Wanna lower and haul bike

Also another question, what's the front tire clearance like during turning w/ the 4" drop up front? does it fully clear?

if you wanna test load capacity. get a couple of your buddies, add up their weight, then have them stand in the bed. get about the same weight your bike will be, maybe even more if you wanna throw some extra stuff back there. measure your fender lip on both side empty, then once it's weighted down and you can see how much it's gonna go down. you can tuck tire in the back so that's not a big deal if it starts to. if it tucks too much, yo might have problems with rubbing the wheel well on a big bump.

yes it fully clears the fender no problems(refer to my avatar). the only thing that rubs is the tire on the frame at full lock, but that's because of 20's being wide. there's no way you can stop it. You just live with losing some turning radius. I don't think you said your running big rims though so that shouldn't be a problem.

Hey big, thanks for bein so informative man, I really appreciate your help! You navy? I see you're in norfolk, i'm stationed there, i'm just deployed to afghanistan right now. Oh! one more question, do I have to get the truck aligned once I drop it? I thought I remembered reading something about it a bit ago when I was skimmin through all of the threads.

Re: Wanna lower and haul bike

You will still probably need a c notch for that much weight.. cmon there cheap, my truck has a 5/6 it tucks rear tire all the time ive never rubbed rear tires, like i said the big thing you gotta worry about is your driveshaft bottoming out

Get a c notch,
possibly get an axle set back plate
and get air shocks

problem solved

I'd love to, and probably will later, but I will only have a week or so in FL before I have to take the truck and the bike to VA, and i'm the only person to do the work, none of the people left in my town have anything to do w/ dropped trucks...they are all *retarded sounding country accent* "jack yer truk uuuuupp!"

no problem man. no i'm not navy. i'm going to ODU and i actually live in hampton during the summer at my parents house. i am planning on going air force once i'm out of college, either through OTS or enlist if i don't get in that way.

once you change anything up front you should get an alignment not just for proper tire wear, but for safety. if you wanna just haul your bike back to VA in your truck without lowering it, i would be more that happy to lend a hand. when are you planning on being back in town?

I've definitely gotta drop it and put in my urethane bushings before I go to VA
I appreciate the help tho dude, I was big into this truck when I was 15-18, but sold it to my dad before I joined up. Now I've got it back again and I've got to RE LEARN everything I knew about suspensions and air-systems...I used to know so much
I'll be back sometime around beginning/early Sept. Gonna spend some time at home in FL before I finally head back up to VA. I rode the bike from VA to FL, I aint doin that stuff again, haulin it this time

oh ok. yeah i'll be back down at school then. i'm sure you know how close ODU is to the base. i'm hoping to be fully bagged on 20's before i go back in the fall. i need a job asap cause i don't have the money for a link system in the rear yet. got pretty much everything else though.

got em for free pretty much. i traded a guy my 17" billet specialties that came on the truck when i got it. gave him two extra tires too since the dealer screwed up and and put too wide of a tire on. i told him i would add some cash, but the day we traded he never mentioned it. he didn't want them cause of the rubbing when turning and on big bumps, but idc. we went to his work, and used all the tools there to do it. then we stood around and shot the shit for over an hour. he's a cool guy i should call him sometime. he's a forum member too, that's how i found out he wanted to trade. i only wish i knew the name and model of the wheel. i should post a pic in the wheel section and see if anyone knows. the pic below is an old one with the 17's. kind hard to see. i have better pics that aren't on photobucket if you want to see better ones. i'm sure i'll be starting a project thread soon, so there will be plenty of before pics in there, as well as progress.

dude spend the little bit more to get the 20" irocs. they will be so much better looking filling up the wheel well. i know this is a second gen, but he's got 20's on it and it's pretty much my inspiration.

i think you will be fine hauling the r6. its around 400lbs full weight. so just get a couple buddies and stand in the bed, that will give you the idea on how low it will ride

3/6 is a odd drop, it'lll look like you ass is sagging. I'd do a 3/4 or a 3/5 at most. Mine is dropped 2/3 with the ZQ8 suspension and I pull a loaded 5x8 enclosed box trailer with my '07 R1 in the bed.
