sitting on bumpstops!

ok my over all lowering now is about 5" in the front and about 4.5" in the back. im having some serious issues with the ass end. it has 3" blocks then i removed the middle leaf. its now sitting on the bumpstop. im afraid if i cut it down it will still sit on it. will i need to cut off the bumpstop brackets lowering it this much?

btw it handels like it on rails with rigid rear suspension

Re: sitting on bumpstops!

yep, youll want to cut both off, itll help the ride...mine was terrible untill I did, i had about an inch till i hit the brackets, and it hit on every little bump in the road and was awful, if you do cut the brackets, youll have to relocate the evap can too

Re: sitting on bumpstops!

cut the brackets off your back will thank you

then notch if you have to

relocating the charcoal canister is a good idea since that's the next thing your axle will hit if the bumpstops are gone

Re: sitting on bumpstops!

ohh i talked to a mechanic today and he thinks i may not be able to get my suspension back by cutting the bracket of. technically i have only one leaf holding up the truck. i think it will just bottom out on the frame.

i have a 93 1st gen. the leafs are dirrerent from the new style. theres two curved leafs and one beefy straight one at the bottom. i took out the middle one so now theres only one curved leaf. should i go with a newer style leaf pack?

shocks can be a major factor, road condition, driving style, etc
or you might be hitting bumpstop, but they are progressive so maybe you arent noticing as much

Re: sitting on bumpstops!

the reason yours is sitting lower than similar drops is the v8 weight,it even adds to the weight in the rear. cut your brackets off and you should be good to go.

most mechanics don't have any experiance modifying vehicles from factory. as a mechanic myself its usually returning everything to working order in stock form.

ryo is using his airshocks on an 8 inch drop with no problems

charcoal canister is part of evaporative emissions system. it stores fuel vapors until your ecm tells the purge solenoid to release the fuel vapors to the engine to be burned. it keeps the fuel tank pressure low. gas in the tank creates pressure and it is released in to the engine at a specific time to relieve the pressure in the tank

Re: sitting on bumpstops!

You can get shocks from a 1998-up s-10 with the zq8 sport suspension, they are 2" shorter for the factory 2" drop, you can do this front and back. About $30 at your favorite auto parts store.
