Need some opinions
I have a 00 gmc sonoma that is uni-leafed in the rear with 4 inch blocks and the bump stop brackets are sitting on the axel. If i were to cut this bracket off, do you think my frame would sit down on the axel? And my main question i need some good opinions on is, i want to get all new shocks for her. I heard toxic drop shocks in the rear would not work with my setup but i really am not trying to spend a whole lot of money thats not necessary when im in the process of buying parts to bag her. I just figured if i got toxic drop shocks, they would be able to transfer to my bag setup without me having to spend extra money on shocks. Would it help me out at all to use these shocks in the rear of my truck with the setup i have? I already know im getting toxics for the front and i might cut my springs down a little more(yes my truck was lowered the cheapest way possible, but at the height i sit, any setup would ride the same unless i notched the frame) to level out my truck. It already sits lower in the rear than the front.

Re: Need some opinions
But since im unileafed, wouldnt it just fall into the notch and still be bangin off the frame? And i was told toxic shocks wont work in the rear, i want to know for sure if they will work.

Re: Need some opinions
take the block out and see where the axle sits with it all back together and measure the distance from the top of the axle to the frame rail. ur gonna have to get the bumpstop and bracket out of there bottom line after that you can see if ur gonna need a small bolt in notch or a big one. you'll probably have to relocate ur evap canister too. as for the shocks i have no clue but i would like to know if they'll work too

Re: Need some opinions
Ok when it clears up outside i will do that. Its been raining for three days strait. I took the blocks out before but it was so spongey i had to put them back in. I want to sai it was about 4 inches off the frame but it was a while ago i did it and i didnt exactly pay too much attention to that. The bumpstop is already off but the bracket is still there so i will cut that off. Damn, i dont have jack stands anymore! Looks like i need to invest in some tools. I'll search on here about relocating the evap canister.

Re: Need some opinions
it was probably spongy cuz the suspension was able to work unlike now where it's just ridin on the frame basically lol. keep in mind that when u ditch them brackets you'll gain a little over two inches of clearance and with the small bolt in notch i think it'll give you another 2 3/4'' or so on top of that. yeah the evap thread is on here,i don't know why the asswipes didn't just put it in the engine compartment like on the full size trucks or any other gm car just about lol i'll be doing this to my truck real soon as well

Re: Need some opinions
Nice, so i will get about 5 inches there. Damn i should be able to bag her with that small bolt in notch! Get some 55 or 50 series tires. Thanks for the advice man. As soon as i can get 200 bucks i will buy the shocks and the notch(let you know how it turned out) and put then in place.

Re: Need some opinions
I got some pictures up in the post picks of your drop thread on the last page and some in the new members section, new guy from wake forest,nc. I cant figure out hot to make an album on my profile or i would have a lot more pictures up. I suck at computers.haha Eventually im going to get a bridge kit from suicide doors for the rear, boa setup and get a tub cover for the cutout in the bed. Or i was thinking about raising the bed floor but thats a lot of work and i dont have those kind of tools!

Re: Need some opinions
I'll throw my 2 cents in because I'm bored. The replies in here seem to be on the money. I'm not gonna begin to act like I know much about bagging, because I don't. However, there does seem to be a little shock confusion here, as it's obious that is your main concern. Do not count on the shocks to carry or support any weight on that rear suspension unless you are running an airshock or coilovers. For your static drop now, you are gonna have to get that bracket cut completely out. It's usless anyway. Then, as stated, you'll need that notch. Good luck!

Re: Need some opinions
Damn i was hoping it would be more simple than that!lol Maybe i should get another set of leaf springs from the junk yard so i can keep two leafs in and cut the bump stop brackets off so she rides better and is level. If i notch it, she will be sitting lower in the rear than i would like which in turn, i would be spending more money to lower the front than i would be spending on a set of leafs. I just need to bag it! Christmas is coming

Re: Need some opinions
Yeah i hate the way my truck rides, im probably dropped 4in or 4 1/2 inches in the front so just taking one spring out with my blocks in would probably level her out? Im still going to cut the bump stop bracket off but am i also going to need to relocate that canister? Or is that only of your going to notch the frame?

Re: Need some opinions
removing a leaf is good for 1.5 inches so 5.5 with the blocks, and no moving the evap isn't necessary unless u notch it but sittin at 5.5 you mite still need a notch, you'll have to get it together and see if ur gonna bag it anyways you mite be able to scrape by
![]() heres my truck at 4/4 to give u an idea of how it will sit with stock leafs and 4 inch blocks. with this set up i didn't have to cut the bumpstop brackets i just puller the rubber inserts out of em, i used the truck to move and it only bottomed out once in two years and the pothole was ruthless that caused it lol |

Re: Need some opinions
Nice, i think i want it a tad lower than that but if its going to cause problems then f it. I will figure something out. Yeah i am going to bag her when i get my money right and im going to bridge the rear with a boa setup and tub the bed. I was thinking about raising the bed floor but thats a lot of work and its easy to mess something up(unless i get someone else to do it, or a shop) and i dont want to have the whole bed floor gone cuz i messed something up. Idk, i got a lot of ideas but i wont be for sure til i actually get around to doing it.

Re: Need some opinions
Thats about what mine looks like now. If i could keep that stance without bottoming out, it would be great! Let me know how it rides after you get it notched cuz i will just take one or two leafs out of the stock springs and keep the blocks in or one leaf out and get shackles with the blocks. Or whatever works better idk. We'll see. She looks good man. I think i got the samee tails as you!haha

Re: Need some opinions
nah mine are the same as urs but mine are the carbon fiber ones lol 40 bucks shipped on ebay FTW! lol keep an eye out on craigslist n stuff, i got my belltech leafs that were only used for mock up on a truck for 40 whole dollars lol and i would'nt take more than one leaf out of the stock spring pack cuz they'll be super soft and weak that way. what size tires u runnin?

Re: Need some opinions
Ah, i didnt think about that. I dont ever go on craigslist, maybe i should. They are 205/60r15's. I traded my 17's i had for these rims and 400 bucks and they came with 235/75r15's on them and i has scrubbing like a mother****er and they bent the lip of my fender out a little so i went with this size so i wouldnt have any problems. Its hard to go certain places cuz i dont have that driveshaft cross brace(still got the nipples) I dont think i will be satisfied with my truck til i get her on air and them still might have some problems. I dreading the day i will be broke down on the side of the road with a busted bag!

Re: Need some opinions
yeah my stock tires rub and those are 205/75's, 235/75's are huge! lol. driveshaft cross brace? i've actually been pondering adjustable coil overs all the was around with a 4 link in the rear,it just seems like with air theres so much shit that can go wrong especially if you don't have big bucks to spend on all the good stuff. that and bein a noob to install and set up, i don't know maybe i'm over thinkin it lol

Re: Need some opinions
I was just guessing thats what its called. Its the cross member that has the nipples, i hit everything with it. I want to get another dime and do a 4 linked coilover setup in the rear too! I have not seen it yet but i think it would be sick and she would handle so good! I been wanting to get into drifting, just seems like a lot of fun, and it would be cool to have a single cab s10 killing it out on the course. But for my extended cab i want it bagged and im nervous about all the problems im gonna have with it. I really wish i could get another dd before i do it. The front is basically all bolt in and the only welding in the rear is the bridge, the 4link and the shock tabs which i cant do any of!haha i need to learn how to weld. I been around it(worked at truckers toy store installing aftermarket accessories on trucks) cuz my boy who worked with me bagged two trucks while i was there and the owners son was having him build a ranger so im familiar with it. Still dont mean i wont have problems. Leaks, electrical problems, failures! I watched his dime almost catch fire due to the power wire for the comp being too small, it burnt all the caseing off the wire and his cab went up in smoke!haha we laughed about it afterwards but still, thats some dangerous stuff.

Re: Need some opinions
theres a guy on here named greencactus i think that has a cantilever coil over set up on the rear it's pretty trick, i still don't know what crossmember ur talkin about u should take a pic lol. yeah don't get me wrong i'd love to bag my truck but i'm in the same boat as u i have to drive my truck everyday just about cuz i already have a 77 vette that were workin on setting up for autocross it has no heat and it's a vette so i can't drive that and i got a 71 dodge fullsize pick up thats gonna get restored and it's in the middle of a engine swap and winters around the corner so i can't drive that lol a drift dime would definitely kick sum ass tho,i mite autocross mine a lil next summer just for the hell of it lol

Re: Need some opinions
if your mono leafed then if you cut the bracket off the axel will hit the frame, metal to metal. and if you notch it the driveshaft will hit the gas tank crossmember. and if you notch the gas tank xmember it will hit the cab. its ongoing problems if you try to go that low. i say just get a 2.5 inch notch and make your own bumpstop bracket that is about one inch into the notch.
