Re: Good Lowering Kit?

you can go onto belltech or djm websites and lookat their kits. But if you have a normal s10 do a 2/3 drop or evenbetter a 4/5...if you have a xtreme do a 2/3 drop on top of your 1.5/1.5 drop.

For drop components....you can get 2 inch drop spindles for the front and retain the stock shocks....ANd for the rear you can get 3 inch drop leafs, but you will need drop shocks than. Its all about how low u really wanna go. But pics would help so get em up fast, lol

Aha,yea right. I thought so too. Let me break it down
3 inch blocks $25 bucks
3 inch leaf springs $95 each
2 inch spindles $149.00
3 inch coils $89
Toxic shocks $32.99 each
Theres $585 right there plus shipping if all together
I Bought the spindles, coils and leafs for $508 shipped from Stylin Trucks
Then bought the shocks from same place $156 shipped
Theres $664 in those 2 orders
You can find a complete kit for cheaper if you choose to

What do you consider cheap.....is $200 or less cheap? should I be spending and looking for anything over $200?

Re: Good Lowering Kit?

To help it not ride like shit, you need to use drop spindles in the front. They lower it 2" and then just decide on how much you wanna lower it from there. Ive never used lowering leafs but they gotta ride better than putting big (more than 3") blocks in the rear.

Dont cheap out if you want ride quality.

Re: Good Lowering Kit?

Belltech.

I got my stuff from Performance Improvements, there should be one around Toronto area. Cost $200 for spindles, and about $40 for blocks. They had parts within 2 days.

If you have factory ZQ8 you can get away with stock shocks like I did, doesn't ride hard. Regular s10(non ZQ8) you will need drop shocks.

75% of the people here do their own work.
i started with zero tools and a simple spindle/block drop first.
this was back in high school when i had never done anything to a car/truck before.
i highly reccomend attempting yourself.
just take your time and read the how-tos on the forum a couple times.
with 400-500, you can get the truck down to a 5/6 if you find deals.
(installing yourself)

but tools do cost money if you dont have any available.

Re: Good Lowering Kit?

It's not that hard, but if you have local friends that are car nuts, they can help you out and it will make the job go easier and faster. The spindles and blocks come with detailed instructions. The main things are to- make sure every nut and bolt is tightened to the right torque spec, always use (new)cotter pins where needed, and get an alignment soon after.

Re: Good Lowering Kit?

ok so I am reading that to reserve ride quality I need spindles right? how far is too far to go with blocks in the rear without losing ride quality?

and her original question was Good Lowering Kit..... yet I dont think I saw one complete kit listed..... do they make a complete front/rear kit? that is recommended here or do we (getting ready to lower mine too)plan on spending $$ on a kit and then a bit more to do it right?

I have a 2001 std cab 4cyl. and would like to sit level. so does that mean I have to lower the rear 1 inch more? kinda think my truck sits level now but I could be wrong... thanks for the help guys...

and for the lady, I didnt mean to steal your thread, just looking for some of the same answers....

you can buy kits, but i reccomend against them.
you can buy individual parts you want, and save money and get better quality.
as for ride quality, spindles will give you a better ride quality/ $
if you decide coils/shocks, you can spend $80 for not so great quality ride, or you can spend $8000 on great quality (not even exaggerating)
personally, any block over an inch will make ride quality go down, but then again, it is a truck so up to 3 is 'safe'. anything taller than 3" is a hazard imo

as for making a truck sit level
you need to measure your fenderlips to ground (on flat concrete) and figure out the difference in height of front vs rear fender lips.
then you can figure out what ratio to drop front/rear to make it level

if going lower and ride quality is all you are looking for (no road racing etc)
i would reccomend belltech spindles and Jagsthatrun blocks.
if you prefer leafs, belltech makes drop leafs as well.

for shocks (if applicable) summitracing sells DT shocks as their 'summit' brand. i have heard many good things about those

Re: Good Lowering Kit?

I'd buy spindles and blocks for your truck, unless your front shocks are bad. Then I'd get some drop coils and new shocks.

I bought my coils/shocks for $120 through Summit Racing. Coils were $68 for Ground Force, and shocks were 26 each for the Summit labeled brand.

Re: Good Lowering Kit?

Here's a list of what you'll need if you go through summit. Add another $56 for rear shocks. Remove what you don't want for your drop. This list will do a 5/6 drop.

Re: Good Lowering Kit?

ya bro, that link isnt working for me either..... so here is what I have gathered so far
buy items seperate, use spindles up front, drop leafs in the rear.

new questions.... with spindles do I still need the drop springs or can I use stock ones? can I buy everything from one supplier? brand? I hear alot that Belltech is the best... also where would you recommend buying from? please dont say Ebay because I hate using that site as i have been burned there plenty of times... shocks recommended when this is done? and what type/brand....

sorry for the long post and all the question but I am a newb when it comes to droppin anything cept'..... well, theres a lady in the room.... I will be nice.

read post $22 i wrote. answers most of those questions.

if you meant shocks not springs...

unless you use drop coils, you can use stock shocks up front
unless you use drop leafs or pull leafs, you can use stock shocks in back

Re: Good Lowering Kit?

Ok, after searching the web I came across 2 places that looked competitive in their pricing, Styling Trucks and PerformanceCenter.com..... after filling up my shopping cart with the goodies I came to a grand total of 659.91 at Styling Trucks and 630.28 at PerformanceCenter.com a difference of 29.63 whooohooo!! half a tank of fuel!!! All products used were Belltech and even threw in the 1" blocks for good measure. PerformanceCenter was free shipping on most and Styling Trucks was more because nothing was free shipping! Let me know what you think and thanks for the help!!!

Prices are for Spindles, 3,4" Leafs, 1" Drop Coil, 1" Drop Blocks, and 4 Nitro Drop Shocks..... should do me for a 3/4 drop and retain my ride quality.

Id like to thank GreenCactus3 for the help as he pretty much wrote the shopping list.... now if I can only get him to write the check......

BTW... if anyone knows where to find this Belltech stuff cheaper, dont be shy!! help a brother out!! or a sister! I havent forgot about the lady in the room!!

now see, that is more of the money range I was thinking about.... why do I have to be so anal about ride quality? must be my old age kicking in!! for kicks... what do you think this would look like with 16" wheels? I want to remove most if not all of the fender gap as this drop is 1" higher than my projected kit.
