front bumpstops
I am just wondering I was looking at the front suspension today on my 1999 xtreme and I see that when I turned my wheels to full lock that my front bumpstops are squashed that there is no room for travel at all on my xtreme with a 2" drop ontop of the factory zq8 suspension, is this normal with lowered zq8's and could anyone please post pictures of there bumpstops, I am trying to find out what the previous owner used to lower my front if they installed the 4cyl springs onto my 6cyl would this cause them to collapse like that or not,
Thank you: Mark |

Re: front bumpstops
This was talked about a few weeks ago...
http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f12/fr...-stops-360725/ I'd first look at your spindles to see if you have drop spindles or factory ones. Do you have a picture of how badly they are collapsed? |

Re: front bumpstops
Ok so if the spindles are just the OEM ones than what does that mean would lowering this on lower coils make this happen or what could cause this.

Re: front bumpstops
Spindles won't cause the LCA to be closer to the frame, but drop coils will. I have a 4" drop up front and was bottoming out all the time, I cut them in 1/2 and it still hit some, I took them out completely and it never hits anymore. I even hit some big ass pot holes on a drive to Louisville, Ky today and it never bottomed out.

Re: front bumpstops
ok so if I just get the ZQ8 1.5 drop coils and the belltech spindles do you think that this will raise it off the bumpstops in the front. And like the other member stated previous when you use coils that is how it goes closer to the frame and when you use spindles that doesn't happen.

Re: front bumpstops
Yes when you use spindles it just raising the point where the rotors bolt to 2". If you use ZQ8 coils then it will raise you up approx. 1/2" and should give you another 1/2" of clearance between the frame and bump stop.
So assuming that you don't have the 2" drop spindles right now and you used the 1.5" ZQ8 coils then you'd be dropped 3.5" in the front instead of 2" |

Re: front bumpstops
Well sound like OEM or Belltech. Belltechs are glossy black and OEM's are a kind of flat black.
Do they look like they may have been painted? |

Re: front bumpstops
Hell I dunno let me look
Yeah they're silver, I can't remember who makes the gloss black ones ANYWAY... Sounds like you have the 1.5" coils The only thing I could think of is that someone cut the 1.5" coils to drop it more or the put a regular S10's bumpstop on your A-arms. Hows it ride up front, what's the measurement from the center of the hub to the center of the fender lip on both sides? Last edited by ZQ8 Blazer : 08-11-2008 at 01:06 AM. |

You're a compulsive liar. Belltech makes silver ones, not black.

Re: front bumpstops
Dont the ZQ8's have some sort of progressive compliant snubber in there instead of a traditional bumpstop?? Alot of people switch their factory bumpstops (on all kinds of cars) to the ZQ8 pieces because it is designed to nearly touch at ride height and then give you some extra spring rate as you compress them. At least thats they way I understood it...

Re: front bumpstops
ok guess what so I go to the GM dealership and now the ZQ8 springs come not as a pare so you have to buy the right and left one and where i live in canada they are $263.25 each so almost $550.00. So if I just get a 1" belltech coil and the 2" belltech spindle will there only be a difference of the .5" and will the 1" spindle settle abit.

Re: front bumpstops
Spindles won't settle, but they only come in 2" so if you get stock coils and 2" spindles then it will be 1/2" lower.
Otherwise keep looking on ebay for the ZQ8 coils, they're always on there from like $40-$80 a set. |

Re: front bumpstops
ok so if I use the belltech 2" spindle and belltech 1" coil how much do you think the coil will settle and do you think that it would still look ok right now as it sits the truck is 25" on the driver side and 251/4" on the passenger side and the rear is at 25.75" so if I did what I think that I will do 25.50" in the front and 25.75" in the rear I will also get the spacer to level out the driver and passenger sides not like the previous owner.

Re: front bumpstops
ok yeah that is what I think that I will do is the belltech 1" coil and belltech 2" spindle as that is just a rediculas amount of money for the oem ZQ8 coils.

Re: front bumpstops
Here ya go. Find out if they're 4cyl coils or 6cyl.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__CHEVROLET-S-10-X-TREME-EXTREME-FRONT-COIL-SPRINGS_W0QQitemZ260273935746QQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20Tru ckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadiZ2865QQcmdZView Item?hash=item260273935746&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A1 0|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 Oh yeah and that brings up a point you 1st mentioned, you could have 4cyl coils, but I dunno. |

Re: front bumpstops
The drop ratings on coils should be after they settle.
i.e. they wont usually drop it the advertised amount right off the bat, but they should settle to it. |

Re: front bumpstops
Again spindles do not change the distance between the control arm and the frame. Why don't you take a pic of your truck and then take a pic of the bumpstop.
