Find that Stance

Lets say you want to lower your truck. Think about all the factors involved in finding the stance you want.

- Overall height
- Rake
- Tire diameter
- Ground effects

A simple ?/? drop question simply doesn't cover it today. Since not all trucks are alike, a 2/3 on one truck can look very different as compared to another 2/3 truck. Plus throw in the ZQ8 package and 4wd's and it can get confusing quick.

How about a thread where all this info is listed where you can browse through, find some trucks you like, and then find out exactly what height they are at by looking at their measurements. You can then compare these measurements to yours, to see what all you need to do to get it to that stance.

1. Fender height. This is a measurement from the ground to the highest point on the bottom lip of the crown of the wheel well. These dimensions would be listed at all four corners. Make sure to do this on level ground after the suspension has settled.

DF = (Driver Front) PF = (Passenger Front)
DR = (Driver Rear) PR = (Passenger Rear)

2. Tire Size. List your tire size at the front and the rear, even side to side if you feel so inclined.
Front = ???/??/R??
Rear = ???/??/R??

3. Drop Parts. The good old fashioned ?/? information, and what parts you used to achieve it(if applicable).

4. Pictures. A simple front and rear shot will do it, if you could resize them to decrease load time, that would be swell.

Re: Find that Stance

1.
DF= 24 - 15/16" ---------- PF= 25"
DR= 25 - 15/16" ---------- PR= 25 - 13/16"

2.
Front = 245/40/R18
Rear = 295/35/R18

3.
4/5.5
Front - 2" Belltech Drop Springs, 2" SSBC Drop Spindles, Belltech "Chevy Lean" spacer on the driver side, 1/4 coil removed on the pasenger side.
Rear - 3" Belltech Drop Leafs, 3" Drop Blocks, Roadmaster Sping set up raised it up 1/2" from the tension.

Re: Find that Stance

I've been trying to explain this to people for months when they ask about lowering their truck. I'll be sure to measure my truck when I get my C6s back on.

Possibly another suggestion would be wheel size and offset and if it rubs or not. This would make this a definitive list for what wheels fit and don't.

Sure, feel free to add any info you think would be useful.

On the front of mine, the tire will hit the frame before full lock. If the suspension compress completly, the top of the tire will rub on the inner fender, a rare occurance though. This is with a 18x8 with 4.5" of backspacing

1.
DF= 30 - 13/16" ---------- PF= 31 - 3/16"
DR= 31 - 5/16" ---------- PR= 31 - 3/4"

2.

Rear has an add-a-leaf to compensate for the weight of the campershell.

Wheels are the stock 15x7, I've never measured the backspacing. No rubbing or decrease of turning radius.

Re: Find that Stance

I don't meant to get off topic, but I currently have a 2/3 right now, my rear is dynamic since i got shocks that you can pump air into to raise it, so my truck is usually around a 2/3. If I need to, it can be a 2/4 or 2/1.

Anywho, I want to go lower, and i'm wondering if anyone ever had their wheels rub with 2" spindles and 2" coils. I have the stock tires, 205/75/15.

205/60R15, 2in spindles, and "2in v6 coils" i bought which dropped me about 3inches,
and blocks and pulled leafs(from the z85)

the massive chevy lean on the rear as shown on these pics has been fixed since, and now both sides of the rear are within 1/4" of eachother, although i dont rememebr the measurements. the front's chevy lean has not been touched.

driver front

pass front

driver rear

pass rear

for this stance on 205/60/15s

frame scrapes over big speed bumps but i have my transmission and exhaust tucked up so it doesnt scrape (a stock exhaust is soo low on a first gen and doesnt like to scrape)

wheels rub the lower control arm when its almost at full lock, but its pretty easy not to rub them

axle will bottom out if you hit soemthnig REALLY hard - very rare occasion and i DONT have a c-notch

Reading owns you, it says 235/75...a 3/4 is a big hell no on that tire size. 235/75's rub as it is on a stock sprung s10. I no that for a fact.

suspension wise yes, you would then also have to account in the lesser size of tire for the full drop from stock height.

Re: Find that Stance

example 225/50R16

50% of 225 will give you the side wall in MM (metric)

= 112.5MM

X2 (top and bottom) = wow 225MM

225MM divided by 24.5MM/inch

equals...use a calculator = 9.18...inches plus the 16 wheel

= approx 25.2" tall

Re: Find that Stance

Jeremy, that is one beautiful canyon carver.

Here is my truck...5/6 drop
DF 24" PF 24-1/8"
DR 25" Page Ranking 25-1/4"

Front 225/60/15 anything bigger rubs bad, fender lips rolled under, top bolts removed
Rear 255/60/15 just clears wheelwheel

Front: spindles, springs (right cut 1/2 coil to eliminate lean)
Rear: 3" block, removed middle leaf, traction bar clamping all leaf springs, modified swaybar

and at speed...

and here is a shot showing the various rakes, black ss is 2/3, mine is 5/6 and the blue flamed truck is @ 5/3.

s10cyncrvr i just wanted to say that your truck looks amazing. Also i couldnt help but notice you have the classic chevy cross flags on your fender. I did the same thing, just found a nice set at a swap meet for 2 bucks (except mine r on the fender).

Re: Find that Stance

1.
DF=28 3/4" PF=28 1/2"
DR=28 3/4" PR=28 1/2"

2.
Front=235/55/18
Rear=235/55/18

3.
I call it a 3.5/4.5 but here is the breakdown.

Original Heights- DF=31 3/4" PF=32 1/4"
DR=33 1/4" PR=33 3/4"

so...

Drop from Original Heights= DF=3" PF=3.75"
DR=4.5" PR=5.25"

Parts Used: Front: Belltech Drop Torsion Keys
Rear: Belltech 3" Drop Leafs, 3" Belltech lowering blocks machined down to roughly 1.5". The blocks aren't the same because I cut them to set my truck down perfectly. If I had milled them evenly I would retained a left/right lean.

4.
Before:
After:

5.
Wheels: Corvette C6 in 18x8.5 +56MM offset. Drivers side rubbed at full lock to the right but slight grinding on the UCA solved this. 1/4" spacer would work as well.

Factory 15s with 235/75/15s still fit fine and don't rub at all so I run them for winter.

Looks sick for sure, but with that stance and looks... It needs a power adder. For instants a blower or turbo heh. Along with a shift kit and gears. Then it would be ridicules.

I hear ya man. Until recently a V8 swap was in the works but I just don't have the time or money right now. Looking into a Wynjammer now.

Re: Find that Stance

Here we go. Probably got the dirtiest pic up here. hehe.
2/3, 02' xcab. X-zq8. Guy changed to stock suspension before I bought it, that ****er! Picked up 3'' autozone blocks/hanging kit for about $30 over a year ago, no problems. Till recently been riding 0/3. Found a set of Belltech 2'' drop spindles in the paper for 75bucks. New in box. Bought them installed, aligned. Looking better now! Yes they have belltech stamped/cast/w/e in the spindles.
Next step is 4'' angled blocks from sumit and 1.5'' Zq8 coils.
Measurements are:
DF...26 5/8'' PF...26 5/8''
DR...26 7/8'' PR...26 7/8''

225/75/15 on swirlies. Rubs hard at full lock. Hit inner fender well over speed bump (went to fast.) Other than rubbing Im happy!

Anyway here's some pics:
0/3 165/80/15 front 265/50/15 rear

2/3 225/75/15 on swirlies

2/3 225/75/15

Re: Find that Stance

Damn I wish I had measured my X before I started my coilover/spindle install. Although the front is now going to be adjustable I used 3" blocks in the rear. Pics hopefully very soon to come.

Re: Find that Stance

Belltech 3 inch drop springs with chevy lean bushing driver side
Belltech 3 inch drop leafs
Belltech performance shocks
Belltech front and rear swaybars

Toyo Proxes S/T 295-50-15 tires front and rear
Ion Series 171 black wheels 8 inch wide

Performance mods are air cleaner box removed with highflow filter. The truck sits 6.5 inches from the ground to the frame. Front measurement is 25.5 inches to the fender and 26.75 to the rear fenders (I haul my dirtbike in back I want it a little high in the back so i can carry some weight)

Future plans call for baer disk conversion for rear drums, posi, 13 inch rotor big brake kit for front. 2 inch drop spindles, 2 inch drop blocks, and Energy Suspension bushing kit. Makaveli or ZE forged wheels with 335-30-18 for rear and either 275-35-18 or 285-30-18 for the front.
Motor work will be the norm of just a high flow exhaust but not ratty sounding $h!t can for honda civics running around these days. Computer upgrades and intake.

The tires rub a hair on the sway bar only at full lock, i did have to beat the wheel well back about a quarter of an inch. driving hitting bumps rubs on the inside of the fender on driver side only but only polishes the lip now that I've rolled them .
