Do drop spindles move the wheel out a bit?

Noob question. I was thinking about dropping my 97 a bit, and wanted to use drop spindles, but with the jacked up wheels that were on it when i got it, it doesn't look like the mount point for the tierod end will clear the wheel if i add a drop spindle. Do the drop spindles move the wheel out a bit for more clearance or is the wheel position the same? Thanks for any help you guys could provide.

yes, they widen the track a bit but the tie rod clearance gets worse

Re: Do drop spindles move the wheel out a bit?

Ok, I understand that since the wheel moves up on the spindle, the tie rod gets closer to the wheel. I have 16 x 8 wheels, with spacers behind them, and would be willing to change the spacer to match the offset of a second gen ZQ8 wheel. If I understand correctly, if I matched that offset, and added the drop spindle, the tie rod should clear. Is that correct?, and what is the stock offset of a ZQ8 wheel anyway?

That sounds correct. However, you still will not be able to run normal hammer on weights on the inside. Will have to use stick ons.

not necessarily, the wheel profile varies between wheels, matched offset will not guarentee clearance, although it is a good guesstimation.

Well, my wheels are steel, and should be a bit thinner than most aluminum wheels. I think I will give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks for your help.

Re: Do drop spindles move the wheel out a bit?

Whoa whoa whoa. I'm currently lowering mine '98 S-10 with the newer ZQ8 wheels. I'm going down 3" in the front. Am I understand this correctly that i'll hit the tie rod ends? I'm using a 1" lowering spring and 2" spindles. Do I have to use spacers, and if so won't that push the wheel out too far. I think I would hit the inner fenderwell?

I believe you should be fine. Another 1/2" drop and you would be right next to the inner lip of the wheels. You will still be above the lips. Probably. lol
