best static to go with?

hey guys im new to the forums. i own a 97 chevy S-10 with a 2.2L in it. the front is lowered incorrectly because i think the previous owner either heated the stock springs or did a chop job on them to make it lower in the front. i have the WORST alignment, and oh yeah its got chevy lean too! so i think its time to fix his hack job. now my question is whats the best static suspension to go with? i see a lot of guys going with the Belltech and JDM suspension. I know i need to go out and measure what my ride hight is at now so i can choose what drop i want. i was thinking 4/5, 5/5, 5/6, BUT i might be dreaming. LOL i do have rims to go on the truck when i get this done they are 17x8 im not sure what tire to use either maybe a 205/45/17? i just wanted to see what everyone's opinion is on this. i think they both would be great on my little S-10. i think i will be buying all my suspension parts from summit. also whats the difference in the mono tube and twin tube for the shocks?

Re: best static to go with?

from that pic it looks like a 5/6. and it looks good like that. you should be able to fit those 17's with no problem with that drop. also with measuring you might find out that you need a notch... if that truck doesnt have one already. but it looks good now. it'll ride a fook load better when you change all that crap for real stuff.

Good place for info when you measure:

you talking about C notch the rear? i dont think it is, but i need to look. i was just looking at your 5/5 drop and thats how low i want mine, if its possible. your truck is sex on wheels! i notice when i drive on the highway it pulls pretty good to the left (left side is lower than the right side up front). dang alignment!

Re: best static to go with?

yea i was talking about a C-notch for the rear. and a 5/5 is totally possible for your truck. Gonna wait on the alignment tell you get it lowered correctly? be the best way to go. no point in paying twice. Only reason why i ask about the notch is because some people need it for the rear. and some don't. they all come out different. but for me the 5" in the rear gives me that little bit extra of clearence so i don't smack frame and axle. if it isn't notched and you still have stock bumpstop brackets back there.. those should be gone with how low your truck is. but you'll need to grind those off if they arn't already. big ride difference and lots of extra clearence. lol and im sure you've read most of this on the forums so far.

im trying very hard to research all i can. ive used static to lower my previous car. but nothing compares to a 5/5 drop. the most ive lowered my previous car was 1.8in all the way around. yeah for the rear are you using stock leaf springs? or did you buy belltech. i was thinking of buying the belltech multi-leaf the price is kinda steep $95.95 on summit, but if it helps to lower the truck then why not? LOL and as for the front my brother was like "you need an alignment" and i was telling myself " im not paying twice when im going to correctly lower the truck" LOL also did you have to modify the frame in the back where the driveshaft is? did you notch that? or would that be for the bagged guys? LOL...also can you direct me to where you bought your belltech's 5/5 drop at?

Re: best static to go with?

pm sent.

And to answer a few questions. I didn't need to modify my frame at all. Summit has all the parts i needed. i just cross checked my part numbers with Belltech's part numbers on Summit and ordered away.

4/5 because you can still get into most places without having to worry much.

Re: best static to go with?

that's like a 3/4 drop

i think 4/5 is the best drop to have... low enough to look good while retaining good suspension geometry and not bottoming out all the time

yeah today i tried to check the drum brakes, but i couldnt get the rims off. i checked and it appears the frame is notched. it looks like a 2 inch C notch. i will have to post pictures of it. the welds are OK they dont look the greatest. and yesterday i was looking at the front greasing up everything and on the left front there is a ball joint that crushed? i need to fix this asap! more pictures to come, and i need to order my belltech stuff pronto!

If you are looking for springs, I have a pair of belltech 3 inch drop springs and 2 pair of 3 inch drop blocks and 1 pair of 4 inch drop blocks if you are interested.

just shoot me a pm if you are, and good luck with the re-build up

Re: best static to go with?

love how the truck was lime green before it was rattle canned? or someone used a spray rig for texturing a house. but for your truck id agree with the guys and go with a 4/5. you'll sit damn close to what the truck does right now. and it will ride a crap load better. with a 4/5 you'll still have to watch out for speedbumps, curbs, concrete blocks(shitty story ). So go with for the front 2" drop spindles, and 2" drop springs. And for the rear get 3" drop leafs, and 2" drop blocks. and some Nitro2 drop shocks all around. Easiest way to go.

Re: best static to go with?

so a 5/5 isnt recommended? i really dont drive it much over bumps, and i take alternate routes when i travel to work to avoid this situation. and civil id like to hear this story pm me man! and the previous owner did the primer job on it and its pretty smooth i guess he took his time in wet sanding it? it wasnt rattle canned i dont think. the interior green plastic pieces were done by a paint shop.

6/8 including tires. 5/7 w/o. These are 17x8 wheels. For everyone that says dont go that low is just scared of taking a lil bit of a beating. Nuthing drags that shouldn't on it and its drives, handles, and feels better than stock.

check out the sticky at the top of the wheel/tire/brake section. Theres a thread about wat size tires you can go with certain drops.

Re: best static to go with?

5/5 is not recommended for the driver that won't take the time to slow down. :P i drive daily on a 5/5 drop. And i drive it like a crazy a$$hole. but the roads out here are really nice. i love the ride. its nice and stiff and responsive. Since you live in texas.... im assuming your roads are pretty good? an inch in the front won't make much of a difference. its totally upto you man.

I dont have any rubbing, but if you use those wheels you are gonna. Your spacer is gonna push em out too far.
